There was no doubt that Private Blake W. Mariano of the 191st Tank Battalion was a brave man. As part of the American Army's 45th Infantry Division, he had killed many Germans as he fought through Africa, Italy and southern France, before finally, in March 1945, he and his Sherman tank had crossed the Rhine into Germany. By April 15, 1945, Mariano had been away from his home in New Mexico for nearly three years. A father of three, the 29-year-old was divorced, although he did have a girlfriend in England.

They weren’t afraid of American soldiers, but they sure were afraid of the American Air Force. “Better a Russian on your belly than an American on your head,” they used to say.
I’m suggesting that the German women may have been a bit more practical-minded then the reminisces of American soldiers give them credit for.
Practical minded like the other European women that fell head over heels for American men?
For instance the British females?
No, they aren’t.
Having actually been to Russia several times, I can tell you they are a friendly and lovely people, and Russia is a stunning country with great history and art.
It’s nice that you visited there, but look at their history, including recent, and even current.
