George Fischbeck, a science teacher turned weatherman who joined KABC-TV in 1972 and spent nearly two decades exuberantly delivering the local forecast, has died. He was 92.

Fischbeck, who was known as "Dr. George," died of natural causes early Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Woodland Hills, his daughter, Nancy Fischbeck, said.

A trained meteorologist, George Fischbeck was so enthusiastic about his subject that he sometimes forgot to talk about the next day's weather.

I have a pic of me and George. He was a guest of the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation gathering at the Universal Studios Hotel. Was many years ago. After his little speech he spent the whole night with the many many firefighters and their wives in attendance.

I met Dr Geoge when we toured his studio as a UCLA broadcast journalism class. I was an Air Force meteorologist and wanted some advise on becoming a TV weatherman. LA only had them on network TV and I thoght I could gram an independant nightly news slot. he was helpful. biut broadcasters of any kind would have to start in Fargo or some such. This was about 1978. I liked his style.” Cutoff low; weather and woe”

I was a third grader at Hawthorne when he was with APS. We’d watch his program, a science show if I remember right, and he would close with “Adios muchachos, muchachas!”
