IIRC, the “colleague” was the show’s producer.
You don’t beat up your boss’ boss and just go back to work.

This was not an Executive Producer, this guy was low level. He had some small roles handling out challenges and waving the start flag in a lab-coat.

Top Gear wore out its welcome with me after one season. Nice to see some cool cars, but the hosts are irritating especially Clarkson.

They are supposed to be irritating. It's a part of the package.

And the boss has no show without the star. And its a bit of a stretch to call the producer “the boss”. I’m sure Oprah had a producer, im sure Taylor Swift has a producer for her concerts, I’m sure John Wayne movies had a producer.

Producers don’t exist without the talent, who is often the real “boss”.

I hope he finds an alternative venue and beats the BBC’s ratings. Not sure if he can, in the UK, don’t the control all the TV channels? Here, he could just go to AMC or TBS and do the same show.

I wish they’d focus more on driving and less on the antics in both countries.

That being said, Tanner Faust is a great fit, the fat guy is OK, but the guy from NJ is terrible and makes the show almost un-watchable. I can’t believe he’s a comedian.

I dont think he could. Its not that The BBC has a monopoly - there are plenty of other stations around. Unfortunately, I dont think any of them could do it as well as the Beeb. In the first place, although Top Gear makes a lot of money its also an extremely expensive program to make. It might be too rich a start up for most of the independent channels.

Secondly, and more importantly, the BBC is ironically more independent than the independent channels. Because its financed out of the public purse, it is not vulnerable to pressure from car manufacturers threatening to pull advertising revenue in the light of bad car revues (a problem that has plagued attempts to make an american Top Gear).

Thats immaterial. You cant go round physically assaulting your co-workers. If you or I were to do that WE would be suspended, if not fired.

Look guys, get a grip. I know the BBC doesnt have a very good rep on these columns, and I accept the majority of the corporation is leftist sympathetic (at minimum). I think (as a Brit) that its rampant bias is scandalous. I know Clarkson has fallen foul of the PC crowd on occasions too numerous and good for him too. (Special kudos for punching the odious Piers)

BUT..just remember. He is in the wrong on this occasion. He came back from shooting, discovered no food was on, threw a hissy fit and physically assaulted another BBC employee. That is not on. You cannot do things like that. If you or I were to do that we'd be suspended too, if not fired on the spot. Its only Clarkson's fame and celebrity status that has protected him this far.

Now tell me truthfully: is that a maxim you think is right? I mean that kind of thinking is what liberals do. "These are the rules, but they dont count for these people over here, because they're special" Is that what you want to support? You can all flame away if you like, but I think this decision by the BBC is a very courageous one, given the massive public support for Clarkson, and the huge amount of money Top Gear brings in, but as much as I love the show and Clarksons contribution to it, I think its the right decision.

I think beating up an underling at workplace is much worse than punching the boss would have been. It is something rich and famous should not be getting away with it.

A British television programme about cars. My daughters really like it. I get bored fairly quickly.

All three will land on their feet on another network, and will be just as successful, and will generate just as much ad revenue as they did for the BBC.

Thank goodness the reruns are on YouTube, Netflix, and the Amazon streaming thingie. I could, and do, watch them endlessly.

Mssrs. Clarkson, Hammond, and May are HILARIOUS!!!
