A Scientific Model Of What A Zombie Apocalypse Would Look Like (And Where Not To Hide)
Zerohedge ^ | 3/24/15 | Tyler Durden

The best spots for riding out a zombie apocalypse are sparsely populated areas of Montana and Nevada, which remain untouched even four months, according to a new study by researchers at Cornell University who have developed a statistical model for simulating the spread of a fictional zombie epidemic. As The WSJ reports, with real-life applications to modeling viral outbreaks, Cornell offer dire warnings for those who live in Scranton, PA - with northeastern Pennsylvania as the U.S. location most at risk of being overrun by the undead.

I think its probably because the idea of a zombie apocalypse pretty much covers the whole breakdown of society.

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, I'm heading for one of the larger islands in the great lakes.

Even four months in, remote areas of Montana and Nevada remain zombie free.

But what if the outbreak STARTS in a remote area of Montana or Nevada?

Because people pay attention to zombie studies. If it was titled “ A Scientific Model Of What A Flu Epidemic Would Look Like” the general population would not read it and newspapers would not print it.

I wanted to live on Beaver Island. Until I saw the housing costs.

Would zombies freeze in cold weather? Would freezing their brain kill them?

“with real-life applications to modeling viral outbreaks”

Thats why.

Could be any number of bio weapons that Iran has or is working to obtain.

Is research into what would go down in the event of a pandemic being called a zombie apocalypse to make it sound trendy, so horror fans will pay attention? That is the most logical thing I could come up with, but I’m more into reality than into zombies/vampires/werewolves, etc, so I really don’t get it...

?I’ve only been to Scranton on my way to Florida. If it were over run by Zombies I am sure one could tell. It might even be an improvement.

Funny, how the original "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) was filmed in rural Pennsylvania...

The article says: “As The WSJ reports, with real-life applications to modeling viral outbreaks...”

So they are using the Cornell model to study the track of a viral disease.

I watch Walking Dead to spot new ways to defend myself and my household. Yeah, I have a long machete. :o)

GRIN!!! I ain’t that far from sparsely populated areas of Nevada. Plus, I got me some of that extra lethal ultra high performance anti zombie ammo too.

This study is flawed. The best place to be is not in the middle of nowhere, since that only postpones the inevitable. The best place to be is where the zombies can never reach you... on an island.
