What county?
Sorry, you send your kid to public school, THEY OWN HIM. You can try fighting, but you will lose. And unfortunately that information, if he gave other than a “no” answer, is already in a database, especially where you live.
I get surveyed at work quite a bit. I NEVER consider a survey anonymous, ever. If it’s on line, of course it’s not. If it’s by hand, then they can easily match handwriting...even if no other clues. So I always respond with how much I love the company...
So the first thing you need to do is tell your kid the same, fill it out nicely, feel free to lie as necessary (i.e., “Do your parents own a gun” - “why of course not”) and get him prepped with the defenses needed for a VERY, VERY, ugly world.
“Ok, so answer every question in full. That better?”
Yep, EXACTLY, of course be sure the kid knows how to properly lie on the survey.
“My kids know not to answer personal questions without thinking. If a doctor asks about guns, they say we dont have any and then tell me so we can find a new doctor.”
Not good. Once you come back with that line, you’ve answered the question in the affirmative, or even worse, with a tinge of anger. Your response, almost certainly, will be reported as “C”.
A: Yes, but we’re careful with them
B: No
C: None of your damn business (meaning he has a gun and he’s got a short fuse)
Answer C is what worries the government the most.
A sex survey would be even more fun.
Back in the 70s my upstate NY high school conducted an anonymous survey on our own illicit drug use, so I reported I abused every illegal drug known during that time... along with half the other students. I’m not sure what they ended up doing with those results. Ha ha ha!
I get really steamed at these newspapers that white out stories until you answer some survey questions. I don’t even read the questions, just click. I’m sure plenty of other people do the same thing. So how useful is the data they collect?
NEMDF - Yes, it seems that the survey asked questions about guns, smoking drugs, religions habits. I have requested a copy of the survey questions from the principal of the high school.
thackney and NYLeatherneck - I will post the contact information for the school pending the response I get from the principal.
FunkyZero - I never heard of PEERS but I will ask my son when he gets home.
ctdonath2 - Worse yet. The anonymous survey was conducted via a computer suing the individual’s student login.
Thanks for the response. I hope you get decent info.
Thanks. The principal called me personally about 20 minutes after sending the email. We talked about a half hour. This is all about getting money for the school to “help” at risk kids. He explained a lot and provided a link to the survey and the phone and email of the next guy up the chain. I will be looking into that when I get home from work. I will attempt to follow the money and see where it leads. I will also attempt to see where the data is stored and who has access. Not sure how far I can peel this stinky onion.
