A Mexican wrestling star suffered a fatal blow in the ring on Friday night in front of the thousands of fans in attendance - and the fight continued for nearly two minutes as he lay motionless on the mat.

The team match continued for almost two minutes before the other participants and the referee realized Aguayo was seriously injured and tended to him, according to video shot in a municipal auditorium in Tijuana, Mexico.

Hijo de Perro? So his stage name was Son of the Dog? This dog barks no more. I’ll bet the audience was over the top hysterical. They already get excited at these matches, when there is just a pretense of danger.

I have always thought professional wrestling was a joke, but I have always thought that people could get killed doing some of the stuff they do too.

Hmm, I watched the video, but I don’t see any of what they said happened.

It’s probably choreographed to a degree, but even so, things can still go wrong.

At the very top most matches are done on the fly or they communicate during the match. The ref also directs the match to some degree.

"I have always thought professional wrestling was a joke, but I have always thought that people could get killed doing some of the stuff they do too."

How right you are.

I had an acquaintance back in the 70s and 80s who used to make extra cash as a "chump" in the Chicago Wrestling promotion run by Bob Luce.

At first, he only had to endure a few bruises (and cat calls from the crowd) for his "chump change." Then one night one of the "big name" wrestlers was scripted to throw him over the top rope into the crowd.

A concussion (serious enough for a hospital stay) and a broken wrist convinced him that there were better ways to pick up drinking money.
