We should show them the Star Trek original series episode where Lt. Uhura is complemented as a beautiful negress. Someone remarks that negress is inappropriate / no longer used. She replies that she is fine with the complement, because it is a compliment - not an insult.
I’ve heard this described as rule of the mean girls.
The person who throws the biggest fit wins.
But instead of it being a decision of where the group goes to hang out, it is everyone denied the option to use a specific term, the right to express a contrary opinion, etc.
It is the tyranny of the temper tantrum, applied to adult rights like speech and association.
I like sauerkraut, spaghetti, and sushi, but not together.

He was filming a Youtube Video with Jerry Seinfeld and they stopped at a Coffee Shop. Jerry guilt-ed him into trying it and Jay hated it.
I guess that means that Jay won't be hanging out at Starbucks discussing Race with the Pierced Tattooed Help, making him a Racist of course.

I think Trelane said something about Lt. Uhura being captured, presumably as a (negress) slave, and she says: "We are a free people!".
But yes, she wasn't offended by the term. Just made it clear that she was never a conquered "slave".
It was Abraham Lincoln who said that, in the episode where it was bad guys vs. good guys from history [of various planets] but I don’t recall the title. ;)
Or rather, Hellman’s, as the same stuff is named east of the Rockies. :-)
Yeah, we ate Hellmans when I was Kid living on Long Island. Heck, I was brought up eating Mayonnaise Sandwiches, just like my Mother’s Family did during the Depression.
Back then, they made their own Mayonnaise and bought day old Bread when they could afford it. My Mother never forgot what is was like to grow up poorer than poor.
My Mother would never buy anything but Hellmans or Best Foods when we moved to California. No more homemade or cheap stuff for her Family.
Bring out the Best Foods and bring out the best...
