You’d also be rich. I know a lawyer that went after an SD for wrongful termination after they did nothing about assaults on teachers at the school. Teacher bought PS and ended up having to use it in self-defense. Cops called it a good shoot, and moreover indicated that without it the teacher would likely have endured grievous bodily harm.
SD fired him. He sued, got the damages and his job back.
Union did NOTHING for him. They are still collecting the dues from him, however.

Interesting post. But I wonder if the lawsuit was more about an unsafe work environment than the pepper spray. Because if pepper spray is on the school's prohibited list, then it would seem to me that the school can fire anyone who has it. Sort of like a pizza deliver guy carrying an unauthorized firearm.
It was settled out of court. Lawyer was going to establish that neither the district, nor the union, could impinge upon the reasonable ability to defend themselves.
The school could either hire enough people to protect teachers or they could allow the spray for teachers, or they could reinstate, admit they overstepped, keep the prohibition against the spray, and put a meaningless letter in the teacher’s file, which is what they did.
He got back pay, back benefits, and the year credited to his pension. He didn’t lose time.
Lawyer took a fee, not contingency. He admitted he was lucky to get the case, because it was easy to win and it also was the right thing to do.
The lawyer was going to tee up the union too. The union couldn’t afford to side with the district. They sat it out.
There was no damages that could be proved on the union, now that the teacher was made whole. It does leave the one fact that the union didn’t do their job representing him. They are going to get away with that.
Word of mouth, though. Union’s not going to walk away from these completely unscathed. The union leadership will likely get hammered on this.
If 12 people reasonably believe the teacher was at risk doing their everyday job at school, they would have murdered the district and the union both. Neither wanted that. It would have made the press, if maybe only in the UK (Daily Mail).

Wasp spray works at longer distances than pepper spray!
The laws against pepper spray is against you in some locales.
I was in school in Dallas, TX in 1972, the year the school board decided bussing blacks to white schools and whites to black schools was a good idea. The year before, we had one black in school but his daddy was a doctor so he had a proper up bringing. Anyway, in ‘72, they bussed in big city busses of blacks from da hood and all hell broke loose. The break between periods was reduced from 5 minutes to 2 minutes and then we were locked inside our classrooms. Yeah, never mind fire codes. Those metal gates were pulled down in the hallways so no one could wander the halls. At the end of that year, DISD had what was called “White Flight” and my family headed straight to white conservative podunkville to get the heck outta there. Today, my old neighborhood looks like that video.
I’ve never heard of wasp spray, but I can only imagine how effective it might be.

Interestingly the nearby high school’s address is “911” Flatbush. It is 85% black and it’s test scores look to be getting worse every year. Gee, can’t imagine why. That bra witch seriously needs to spend the next 5-7 in big people prison to learn a thing or two.
