I think that takes “bug out” to a whole new level.

How about two ex mother in laws , one on each shoulder telling you how it should be done? Ground Zero may look better and better. :D
To: wally_bert
It’s still easy to get parts for that engine.

I still remember how to pmcs, start and drive a Hemmit (m978). I would love to use that as a bugout vehicle. I think the local national guard has a few I can use if need be.

The turbo boost and direct injection move it up to 111 HP.
Called the 200tdi engine.
Noisy, not terribly economical, but next-to-zero maintenance and can run on whatever.

But just because it can run on "whatever", doesn't mean you have to.
Take care of it, and it'll take care of you.

If you have to ask, you probably can't afford it. LOL.
For 2015, the smallest model starts at $282,000 and can run as high as $500,000 depending on options. I suspect a base model in the $300,000 range would be fine, since most of the options include things that wouldn't do you any good in a SHTF scenario.

The purpose of it is to get as far away from humanity as quickly as possible. LOL.
If I had one of those, my first move in a SHTF scenario would be to get into it and drive to the nearest utility right-of-way so I can make my way out of the area without driving on any paved roads.

Nobody dies, right away. Its just that the power goes out - for a year. No car made after 1975 or so will work. No radio made after 1970 or so will work.Everyone just ends up starving to death and killing each other over what little food is left.
The problem with this scenario is that based on the assumption that nothing can be rebuilt or repaired for a whole freaking year. LOL. I find that a bit hard to believe.

Now that I think about I used to know how to fly so I guess could “appropriate” a small aircraft and bug out with that. The landing would be spectacular.

Well...a wind driven boat is barely be detectable on sonar. A glass boat is naturally stealthy against radar...hence radar reflectors. And cooking smell? Sushi!!!

Darn, there goes my secret. UROW less than half mile away using low traffic/house density roads. Gets me clear of major bottlenecks and into open country and then 4x4 to secluded family rendezvous to assess situation, consolidate, and consider pre-planned alternatives.

Read the article. He’s talking about a boat that looks derelict in someone’s back yard, being used as a camoflage shelter. Not one actually in the water and can get away from land.

I’m just saying it’s going to be a nice tasty looking target for anyone afte the SHTF. People will eventually stumble upon wherever you’ve made it to. Or ambush you before you get there.
