LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Royalty will meet Thursday for the first time in the Port of Long Beach.

The Queen Mary will be visited by her “niece” when the Queen Elizabeth II, which is in the midst of a global cruise, pulls into a nearby dock around 7 :30 a.m.

It is the first time a modern Cunard liner will dock and disembark passengers in the Long Beach harbor.

The Queen Elizabeth is a replica of the original ship, which, along with the Queen Mary, made more than 2,000 trans-Atlantic crossings while in service.

Not sure I’d call the QE2 a replica of the original Queen Elizabeth.

In what way is the Queen Elizabeth II a replica of the original ship?
The article actually said the Queen Elizabeth, what ship are they talking about here?
The Queen Elizabeth sank in the Hong Kong harbor in 1972.
I think the author is a bit confused.

I can see the posters going up now:

"Long Beach Gala Tonight!"

They can call it an LBGT event and gets lots of attention.

Years ago, my husband and I got to tour the Queen Mary and the Spruce Goose. Both were amazing. He died in 06. I have precious memories.

Yeah, I guess, if by "replica" they mean it's also black and floats.

I love the Queen Mary. We used to go once a year and stay a few nights. My granddaughter has never been and wants to go so she and I are spending a night on her this summer. Yay!

A landmark of Long Beach, California and truly one of the great ocean liners of the world.

In its heyday before air travel, it epitomized extravagant luxury and comfort. It was like no other travel experience.

And its timeless Art Deco decoration is simply world-class.

There will be never be another Queen Mary.

Cunard is the parent line that built the Queen Mary.

Today is a source of pride for fans who are still in love with ocean travel.
