For those who are tired of seeing their hard earned money forcibly seized by the government and redistributed to those who refuse to contribute anything of value to society. Even the staunchest of conservatives and libertarians understands that a civilized society needs to provide some level of support for those who are sick, disabled, or simply going through a rough period like losing a job. Americans are a generous people and for the most part were all willing to chip in to make our country a better place.
But we can all probably agree that within the social programs designed to provide for the truly needy there also exist hundreds of thousands of people who have made a career out of taking advantage of our good nature and living off government subsistence. These people are able-bodied and fully capable of performing labor of some kind, but like one woman who recently called in to an Austin radio show, they prefer to sit at home because they know they are still gonna get paid.

As soon as you take this role away from private, voluntary charity and give it to the government you have let the camel's nose of corruption and tyranny under the tent of liberty.
Disability is the EBT platinum card.
“The employers fund Unemployment Insurance (UI) in 49 of 50 states.”
In the same way that they pay half of the employees social security and medicare insurance etc. It is money the employee earned and never saw deducted from their check. UI should be based on your uninterrupted time of employment
I could teach anyone who can read and speak English at the grammar school level to make six figures within a few years.
Why don’t you start doing that? You could charge a fee and make a lot of money.
No, it’s nothing like SS and Medicare. I worked at the state unemployment office for a long time.
If you can heal me I’ll start tomorrow.
You’re partly correct. But it’s the government that is the cancer, creating all these captive ‘entitlees’ to support its policies on top of dumbing down consecutive generations to further the agenda.
Otherwise agreed.
You should have stipulated that. Best wishes.
I am waiting for an answer to your question.
I thought you already knew I was a semi-shut-in disabled veteran.
I knew but not to what extent. Sorry, I should have been quicker on my feet.
Thanks again for all your great work on FR.
Are you serious or just trolling me? And what does being female have to do with it? There are more females in college than males and it has been that way for a while now. There are special programs to help females in many areas all over the place. Show me even one designed to help males only. I used to teach a job-seeking workshop for AFDC & Food Stamp recipients and I can count the male attendees in all those years on one hand and have fingers left over.
Even if "society" has such an obligation, it does not follow that it is an obligation of government, let alone the federal government.
Yep. Once you’ve accepted that it is any amount of government meddling becomes possible.
The grocery lobby will never allow a change in the welfare system. Nor will Bank of America, or whichever one handles the welfare debit cards.
I don’t care where you worked. Your employer doesn’t pay anything “for” you. It is just money that isn’t on your list of deductions on your pay stub
It’s one of the costs of doing business and having employees. And the more claims against your UI account, the higher your taxes go. Ask any employer on here or that you know.
Yep. At that point I’ll be looking out for th efamily and close friends. That’s it.
The Democrat Commies are counting on it.
I am well aware of this government insurance program which is no more than another welfare program. Hence that its term of payout are easily extended at no cost to the recipients what so ever.
My point is that unemployment insurance should be optional and sold by private enterprise. Not government mandated and not administered by politicians.
