I think what happened was that Carroll was caught off-guard when Belichick didn’t use any of his remaining timeouts, to give the Patriots more time if the Seahawks scored, keeping in mind that they would have only needed a Field Goal to go to overtime.
Because the clock was running down, they no longer had the luxury of trying to run it in three times, if necessary.
The Butler did it, in the End Zone, with the pick.
I have watched that play over and over again. In my opinion, Lynch would not have scored had they given him the ball in that formation. The patriots got a HUGE push and had the 'Hawks O-line pushed back at least 3 yards or more with Wilfork plugging the center of that line. It would have been a serious miracle for him to score on that play. On 3rd down? Maybe. On 4th down? Definitely. But the Pats were in a run defense so the play call on 2nd down was not unreasonable. Butler made a real heads up play.
If he hadn't and the 'Hawks had scored, everyone would have been calling Pete Carroll a genius for crossing up the Pats defense. But...defense wins championships and there was a reason a rookie like Butler was on the field at that moment.
The coach was evil white.
yes; he’s black but not black enough....now Lynch is really black...
see if you’re black thats okay but if you’re black but not black enough and beat out someone who’s really black its because of racism...
complicated yet simple...
What a load.
The ironic part about that play, I think New England was going to let Lynch score had Wilson given him the ball.
Exactly!.....The seahawks had run that same play 64 times in the regular season without an interception.....if it didn't work (odds 64:1)you have a stopped clock and 2 chances to run it in with NO time on the clock for a field goal
