CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel entered treatment on Wednesday, adviser Brad Beckworth told ESPN.com through a Manziel spokesman.

Johnny Manziel has entered treatment to work on "areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate," according to a spokesperson. "Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step," Beckworth said.

For Honorable Mention, we can add Heisman runner-up Rex Grossman.

Grossman actually had a decent year or two in Chicago and actually played in a Super Bowl, many wanted him to be the next Sid Luckman. Crouch didn't even make it to week 1, and Manziel embarrassed himself. Tebow is a funny case. I forgot about Wuerffel. Since Sammy Baugh, the Redskins always did better with proven veterans (Sonny Jurgenson, Kilmer, Joe Theismann, Doug Williams).

Take your draft pick.

You're old enough to be Johnny's father and sound like you're hoping he is a failure in the NFL.

You're rather pathetic...and probably envious of his athletic abilities.

At the professional level, everybody is much faster. Even the 350 pound linebackers. A scrambling quarterback will get pummeled out there so if you don't have great passing skills, you are going to likely wash out.

The game wasn't always like this. If you ever get a chance to see film clips of much older games, anything before 1960, you will see that nearly every play is a rushing play. Quarterbacks basically spent the game taking the snap and handing the ball off to a back and those that passed a lot were seen as quite queer. And I'm talking the original meaning of queer, back when it was another word to describe "odd" or "peculiar".

“Eric Crouch (Rams/Dolphins)”

He tried out for wide receiver, not QB. He could not take the pounding from the linebackers/defensive backs and quit voluntarily. He quit during training camp.

I don’t care if he succeeds or not. Personally, I don’t think he has the arm. I watched him play last year. He doesn’t have the NFL arm that will let him throw the ball the way he did in college. Off balance, off his back foot etc.... it doesn’t have the zip. And his biggest problem is that he is very talented and has spent most of his life being faster than everyone else on the field. That’s not the case where he is now. Now linebackers and defensive ends run him down. And the floater he throws that worked in the NCAA don’t work in the NFL.

He tried out for wide receiver, not QB.

He tried out as WR with the understanding that he could be considered later for QB. The Rams also drafted him as a WR, and he whined all through training camp that he wanted to be a QB, and then pretty much quit. In any event he considered himself a QB and could not/would not use his college skills in the NFL.

It is obvious to me that you never saw Mr. John Unitas play, or even further back, Mr. Otto Graham. ;-)

I’ve been to Tyler Texas. Pretty enough part of Texas. Nothing wrong with living in Tyler Texas. He’ll probably enjoy life there.

In 59 Unitas completed 193 passes for 2899 yards. In 2013 Brady completed 380 for 4343 yards. (more games, agreed) In super bowl #1 Bart Starr completed 16 of 24 passes. Yesterday Brady completed 37 of 50. When Unitas and Starr played the interference rule was if you "touched" the receiver in any way while the ball was in the air it was interference. I personally think it is more difficult to complete these passes today than it was then.

And, there is little doubt that the passing game is a bigger part of football than it was in the "golden age".

You coach where? Or, are you a NFL scout?

BTW, he has never been that fast. Elusive, yes; fast, no. And absolutely entertaining to watch on a football field...when allowed "to do his thing."

He will love life in Tyler. Its not a long drive to Shreveport and the casinos. He can get to Dallas petty quick. And, he will really be somebody in Tyler.

If he makes it in the NFL it’ll be a punt returner. He will never make it as a quarterback.

” When Unitas and Starr played the interference rule was if you “touched” the receiver in any way while the ball was in the air it was interference.”

It seems that you also have never heard of the ‘bump-and-run’ when a defensive back could almost undress the receiver while he was running his route. ;-)

You could bump and run until it was in the air. Then it became pass interference.
