More Trivia:
Six months after the release of “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, singer Ray Parker, Jr. released the single “I Still Can’t Get Over Loving You”, the lyrics of which bore a striking similarity to “Every Breath You Take”, even including the lines “Every breath you take, I’ll be watching you.”

Maybe people aren’t responding ‘cause they don’t get it. I don’t know what “vote for a bracket” means. I can tell you which songs I like, but in these “pairs” there are songs I really like and songs I really don’t like. Why can’t we just vote for a song and the top vote getters win?

I’m sorry if I did not set it up perfectly. I was worried I was late and simply cut and pasted the basic Excel I had set up, rather than making it look real nice to boot.

I have done these kinds of contests in the past and pairing up songs/horse/cars whatever tends to be very fun. It’s simply comparing 1 vs another at a time, rather than our first round which had to be a whole ranking of 10 songs, which I find more difficult. I find it also difficult to pick 1 song out of very many.

I would say this messed up because I posted the results of that ranking 10 songs, Round 1, first, rather than immediately posting all the pairings for the bracket system. That was the confusion - people responded to my list of 10 thinking that was the contest.

This is based on genuine top hits lists from Billboard. They are the unadulterated, tabulated, unprejudiced impersonal rankings of songs. There is no better way to start it!

OOps - TP, you forgot the last pair.

2 1989 “My Prerogative” Bobby Brown
5 1989 “Miss You Much” Janet Jackson

Or did you dislike them so much you didn’t want to vote on those? (Which is OK!)

Just a note that if you vote in this contest at all, you are automatically placed on the Tournament ping list! ;-D Don’t worry, it’s only about 2 months at worst!

Must have been a cut-and-paste error, but I’ll go with the both-suck option. Thanks.

It’s simply comparing 1 vs another at a time

So we tell you which one of each pair we like the best? Not which pair we like the best? I'm learning. I'm more used to yes, no, not Lindsey Graham polls. :) (sorry!)

Thanks.

I will try to iron out how I start threads next time, and how I format it! LOL

(So much easier with those other forums, especially the “edit” option!)

I should have posted the previous thread for history, so those not seeing it prior can see what has happened.

Yes, of each pair, pick your favorite.

Next week there will be just 32 songs that will be paired. (The future pairings are sort of implied by the formatting here, but it’s hard to see without nice layouts and such. I’m not that good at HTML yet to bother.) Which means there will be 16 winners.

Thanks!

To do a play-off system, often called “brackets”, we need to start with 64 which halves until only 2 are left in the “final”.

Aha! I get the elimination aspect of a bracket, and I know there are different ways of filling it, but it was mainly the reason that Round 1 differed from Round 2 that escaped me. Of course, having to start with a power of 2 makes perfect sense. Thanks!
