The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

After doing a search, it appears that Burpee has the only on deck corn out there, so I plan to grow it again!

I've got a lot of plants to start. I got a little bit of a late start because of the being sick thing.

You are a violent person, but yeah, the most I need to ID is edible or in-edible when it comes to birds. Mockingbirds do seem to eat the bugs and stuff, so I let them live. ;)

Yes, they developed that corn. The first time I tried to get the seed, 2013, they were already out, so get your seed as soon as it’s ready to sell for 2015. I haven’t checked so it may be ready now.

I have a growing stack of catalogues. I’m sure that Burpee is among them!

Some birds are helpful to your garden. For example Wrens are very territorial. Put them close to your berries and they will chase off the other birds.

Wrens don’t care for berries, they like protein - like insects for example.

Have your guy build you a blueberry enclosure like Tube Bender has. Nothing get through that except the two legged varmits. LOL

Thank you, Ma’am. I had hoped to get it painted this week, but it’s been really cold here. So I decided the more prudent course of action would be to wait on a warm-up. The paint will stick better when the wood isn’t frozen.

greeneyes :" I’ll have to try some of that medium heat. Hubby find jalepeno too hot. I like them, but that’s as hot as I go too.
So I could use a medium heat to see if he could take it."

The "hotness" of Hot peppers is measured in scoville units ; sweet peppers that have 0 scoville units , whereas other peppers are rate at 2 million scoville unit.
Maybe you can find a pepper mutually flavorful and agreeable for both of you.
I found a scale of pepper hotness so that you can move up (hotter), or down (milder) at :

I couldn't stop thinking about kimchi. Just put up 2 gallon jars. I went pretty light on the cayenne pepper. I measured and wrote down everything because it was my first time. Used nappa cabbage, daikon radish, shredded carrots, thin sliced onion, green onion, and made a brine, in each jar one cup raw sauerkraut juice, one cup kombucha, some minced garlic, ginger paste, kosher salt and cayenne. I am looking for more of a kraut type, not a drier rotted type. Thanks for the inspiration. I can hardly wait!

I give each jar a squirt of Siracha sauce. It gives it a nice chili and garlic oil sheen. Yours looks so yummy.

I hear you, I just can’t take that much heat and no one else in the house will eat it but me. Instead of crushing my own garlic I used the minced jar stuff that has the oil. I’m sure I’ll be altering the recipe which is why I measured everything and wrote it down.
