He says NOAA will work with ferry officials and others to move the animal so a necropsy can be conducted

Yeah. Move it.......out to sea! Necropsy tests point to the fact that this whale is DEAD!

American Indians living along the coast used to think a dead whale was a godsend. They would not have to hunt for a long time.
OK, so it was a little ripe, but even the English liked “aged” meat.

I recall a whale washing up on the beach about 5 miles north of Gearhart, Oregon in the early 70’s (after the Lane County fiasco).

MAN! Did it ever stink and the road (Highway 101) that you could smell it’s ‘fragrance’ was at least one mile away from the dead mammal.

Stunk for almost two months.

That’s Seattle for you. You go there looking for a cup of coffee and a $15 a hour minimum wage job, and you wind up dead under a wharf.

Whew!
That reminds me of walking up on a cow that got stuck in the mud banks of a creek. Well this was a 600lb heifer and by walking up on it, I mean for a week we knew something was bad from the house. This thing was about a mile away from the house. Every step closer to her got more rank.
Then there was the longhorn that got his horns stuck in a gate....

Found a deceased whale on a Shemya beach in April in the mid 70s. Odor was not much of a problem. Foxes & ravens were doing a good job on the cleanup.

Re: “and you wind up dead under a wharf.”

Just a couple blocks away from the whale, the largest, most expensive tunnel boring machine in the world has been completely “dead” for at least 12 months, a hundred feet under the street.

Too big to pull it out, and can’t move forward.

Every few months the Department of Transportation holds a press conference and announces a new “delay” in bringing it back to life.
