Say no to porn. Boycott 50 Shades of Grey, the movie: sign the petition

Background:

Hollywood executives have chosen to release the film version of the "erotic" novel 50 Shades of Grey in theaters this Valentine's Day - Feb. 14, 2015.

While the marketing campaign is selling the movie as a "romance," there is nothing authentically romantic about the tale of a sado-masochistic sexual relationship between a young, vulnerable student, Anastasia, and an older billionaire, Christian Grey.

Critics have described the book as misogynistic, pornographic, exploitative, sexually violent, and anti-romance – and there is little reason to expect the film will be anything different.

Opposition to the book and movie crosses the ideological spectrum, with many feminists expressing grave concerns about the messages the book is sending to young men and women. One post on the leading feminist website Jezebel slammed the book (and by extension, the movie) as "50 Shades of Abuse."

Marketing for the film is already in full swing, and little concern is being given to the influence that the positive and pornographic portrayal of sadism is having on teenagers and others.

While undoubtedly many people will flock to see the film what it is released, there is a growing movement opposing both the films and the book.

This upcoming Valentine’s Day, join this movement by pledging to take stand for true love and true romance. Together, let's make 50 Shades the worst box-office flop in history.

JC Penny was near death even before that. It was mostly due to their store restructuring and getting rid of coupons.

I can’t believe that I actually read this book. I only did so because a former girlfriend compared me to Christian Grey in that I was irresistible. After reading the book I felt offended.

There is no way in heck I would see this crap. I only wish I could get back the time it took to read it.

IIRC, “50 Shades of Grey” began as “Twilight” fan fiction.

I read the book. It’s full of sexual situations such as bondage, whipping, etc. There is no way I will watch the movie.

You believe the reason J C Penny is hurting is a boycott?

What about all of the other large retailers that are hurting?

You are assuming cause and effect when there isn’t one.

reading the synopsis at http://www.themoviespoiler.com

creates the real nightmare for hollyweird. Denial of money attacks.

spoiling the movie helps too.

In short this is a movie about a woman who like to be hit during coitus.

“JC Penny was near death even before that.”

They homo advertising didn’t help. It made matters worse. People sent back their Penny’s catalogs saying “we don’t buy from you because of this add”.

My wife read it a while ago. She said it was overrated and overhyped.

Absolutely - Hollywood loves this kind of free advertising.

You know I believe JC Penny had good quality stuff in their stores. Always did. May not be Bloomingdales stuff but they was reaonsably priced and lasted. Now mind you last time I shopped there was sometimes in the 90’s, before wal mart. Maybe that is the problem, I should have never left. Wal mart may be cheap but they suck in quality.

Those homosexual adds did not do anything to help them. I’m sorry that is a “family store” and homosexuality is not a “family” image.

“My wife read it a while ago. She said it was overrated and overhyped.”

I agree.

I read it when it first came out and found it boring. The same allegedly shocking things over and over and over and over.

Abysmal story line.

My neighbor and I loan each other books-she loaned me 50 Shades in exchange for Bernard Cornwell’s Empty Throne, which like so many of his books is long on history, short on romance, and the sex and violence are pretty raw, as it was in that time.

After reading less than half of 50 shades, I found the sex less than sexy-and as someone who believes women and men are equals, I found the male character obnoxious in the way he treated the female character as a possession and lesser person. The female character was a clueless idiot to allow herself to be objectified in that way. It was a stupid book, but not even close to what I consider “porn...

Yet women read this and love it? WHY? Women want to be treated like this by men? Feminist women? Please.

How is a voluntary boycott related to censorship?

Answer: it isn’t.

Nobody is telling anyone to do anything. They are simply asking.

Hmmm. People who worked at Walden books in the eighties found out different.

Sometimes they don’t work.
Other times they do.
