Say no to porn. Boycott 50 Shades of Grey, the movie: sign the petition
LIFENEWS.COM ^ | 1/22/2015 | lifenews.com

Background:

Hollywood executives have chosen to release the film version of the "erotic" novel 50 Shades of Grey in theaters this Valentine's Day - Feb. 14, 2015.

While the marketing campaign is selling the movie as a "romance," there is nothing authentically romantic about the tale of a sado-masochistic sexual relationship between a young, vulnerable student, Anastasia, and an older billionaire, Christian Grey.

Critics have described the book as misogynistic, pornographic, exploitative, sexually violent, and anti-romance – and there is little reason to expect the film will be anything different.

Opposition to the book and movie crosses the ideological spectrum, with many feminists expressing grave concerns about the messages the book is sending to young men and women. One post on the leading feminist website Jezebel slammed the book (and by extension, the movie) as "50 Shades of Abuse."

Marketing for the film is already in full swing, and little concern is being given to the influence that the positive and pornographic portrayal of sadism is having on teenagers and others.

While undoubtedly many people will flock to see the film what it is released, there is a growing movement opposing both the films and the book.

This upcoming Valentine’s Day, join this movement by pledging to take stand for true love and true romance. Together, let's make 50 Shades the worst box-office flop in history.

Sign this petition, and then share it with your friends and family.

So all the girls in the office were going on about this book and I decided to read a couple chapters to see what all the hub bub was about. The author should collect as much money as she can off these book, because there won’t be much more of that coming her way. Horribly written, trite unrealistic characters, terrible treatment of women, predictably pathetic plot. Even the sex (the only reason people read this crap) was horribly written.

Please define, in detail, how organizing a boycott and launching a petition aimed at movie executives, is “censorship at its finest”.

Before you make a fool of yourself, though, you might want to look up the definition of censorship.

Boycotts don’t work. What does send a statement is when we go out of our way to go see wholesome movies when they’re playing in theaters. Nothing grabs Hollywood’s attention more than a Christian or family film made on a relatively low budget hauling in huge receipts.

This is censorship at its finest.

Please explain to me how a boycott is censorship, and how telling you not to watch a movie is in any way preventing you from seeing it or preventing the movie from being shown.

Not that they need it, but I'm sure the movie people thank the petition people for the additional publicity.

Heck, these boycotts & petitions are how I knew which heavy metal albums were the "best" ones when I was a teenager.

“Boycotts don’t work.”

Tell that to the CEO of JC Pennys. They are still closing stores across America over the homosexual adds.

I am not sure why anyone would want to see it.

The internet is full of real porn, and they don't try to wedge a “Story” in there to justify the sex. From what I can tell, it IS the story.

It will not be on my list of movies, that is for sure.

If that was the reason, there would be an awful lot of businesses closing.

http://www.themoviespoiler.com has a complete synopsis of the book.

There is no need to pay for the movie OR read the book.

It is pretty much a storyline version of the book.

I stand corrected. Boycotts do work when a company offends its primary base. For Hollywood, the only thing they understand is profit. So, yes, not going to trash movies helps, but showing them another way involves supporting decent movies.

Obviously you are not old enough to know the difference between signing a petition and censorship.

I have found that the more Hollywood tries to be “edgy” with sex, the more unintentionally funny the movie becomes. They aren’t going to make flat out porno movies, so they try to tease the subject and be suggestive without actually showing the sex. You end up with something like “Exit to Eden.”

It's the same in the Navy. We get a list of all the "off limits" establishments when we pull in to port, also known as the "fun places" list! Guess where everyone goes?

I found it hilarious that the entry at thebookspoiler.com is next to Stephanie Meyer's Twilight books.
