Teenager Ruairi McSorley, from Northern Ireland, became an internet sensation earlier this week, and has been dubbed “frostbit boy” online after video of a local weather interview went viral.

Hailing from Sperrins near Londonderry, McSorley spoke to a UTV interviewer while on his way to school, according to the Daily Mail, who asked his opinion on the frigid temperatures that had engulfed the region. Thanks to his strong accent, video of McSorley’s responses went viral, and the clip had been viewed more than 3.5 million times in just three days.

I have a feeling that even if he had subtitles I wouldn't be able to figure him out.

I pity the poor American tourists who get lost and ask him for directions.

If you watched a lot of PBS you’d probably understand him. My regular viewing of “Ballykissangel” starts in 10 min.

We had friends from Scotland — she from Aberdeen and he from the Shetland Isles. She complained that when the inlaws visited, they would talk to the husband in their Shetland brogue so that she couldn’t understand what they were saying. She always thought they were talking about her behind her back. They probably were.

When I was doing some training with the SAS, we met up and were eagerly speaking to each other in a little bunch like GIs do, maybe 3 or 4 of us and 3 or 4 of them, when suddenly the Scottish one spoke, we Americans had no idea of what he was saying and looked to the Englishmen to translate, but one of them just looked back at us knowing why we were looking at him and said, “don’t ask us, we can’t understand them either”.

Make fun of him if you want, but he’ll be the first one you call when the plasma injectors are clogged and you need to push the engines to 200%.

If this Irish Traveller wasn’t subtitled, I couldn’t understand. He’s apparently calling out a guy for a fight.

Had the same problem in Alabama. His wife complained that she could not even understood what he just said. She was from the northeast US. Funny thing was, I understood him fine.

Cold is nothing to joke about. We had an electrician who rarely wore a coat out into the power plant that had no siding to block the wind.

One day they found him staggering around on the boiler. He could barely talk, forgot what he was supposed to be doing, forgot where he was.

They got him back into the enclosed heated parts of the plant and he soon recovered. Thankfully, frostbite had not set in on him yet, but his body temp was very low.

Several years ago I took my fiance to Scotland for a family reunion.

Early on we made a rule: if, after you ask the local to repeat himself twice after the initial query and you still can't translate into the human, just say "thank you" and move on to the next local.

I proposed to fiance on top of Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK. I am glad I had a map because if I had to rely on the local populace for directions, our frozen bodies would still be buried in snow on that large hill.

To me, the problem is mainly the mismatch between the audio and the video, timewise. If I listen without seeing the video, it is much more understandable. However, it is a vurry strang accent....
