Michael Moore: I Was Taught Snipers Were "Cowards"... Fat Pig Dufus alert!

Michael Moore has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on snipers. The Fahrenheit 9/11 director wrote that he grew up being told that snipers are cowardly. "My uncle killed by sniper in WW2," Moore wrote. "We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot you in the back." Read MoreBox Office: How 'American Sniper' Played Like a Superhero Movie "Snipers aren't heroes," he continued. "And invaders are worse." Moore spoke directly about director Clint Eastwood's film American Sniper on his Facebook page. He praised the film for star Bradley Cooper's performance and for its antiwar sentiment, but he also wrote: "Too bad Clint gets Vietnam and Iraq confused in his storytelling. And that he has his characters calling Iraqis 'savages' throughout the film." His comments come on the same weekend that the film earned $105.2 million over four days, marking the biggest opening haul ever for a nontentpole film. It landed six Oscar nominations Thursday, including best picture and best actor for Cooper. American Sniper centers on real-life Iraq War soldier Chris Kyle, who tried to balance his career as the most prolific U.S. sniper with his family life. Moore's tweets can be seen below. And invaders r worse —Michael Moore (@MMFlint) January 18, 2015 But if you're on the roof of your home defending it from invaders who've come 7K miles, you are not a sniper, u are brave, u are a neighbor. —Michael Moore (@MMFlint) January 19, 2015 Jan. 18, 6:20 p.m. Updated to clarify that Moore had not mentioned American Sniper in his tweets. THR regrets the error.

Being a sniper is far from risk free and it's a lot more surgical than a bomb run from thousands of feet up.
Liberals seem to think that war should be some kind of fair competition.

Michael Moore uses cheap tricks and unethical tactics to gain the results he needs to support the themes of his films.

“Bowling is fiction. It makes its points by deceiving and by misleading the viewer. Statements are made which are false. Moore leads the reader to draw inferences which he must have known were wrong. Indeed, even speeches shown on screen are heavily edited, so that sentences are assembled in the speaker's voice, but which were not sentences he uttered. Bowling uses deception as its primary tool of persuasion and effect.

“A film which does this may be a commercial success. It may be entertaining. But it is not a documentary. One need only consult Rule 12 of the rules for the Academy Award: a documentary is a non-fictional movie.

“The point is not that Bowling is biased. No, the point is that Bowling is deliberately, seriously, and consistently deceptive.”

Moore should ask those elderly Red Army soldiers armed with Mosin-Nogant rifles that successfully defended the city of Stalingrad (now called Volgograd) in that famous battle where snipers became vitally important on both sides of that battle.

Enemy at the Gates where Russian snipers help the Russians hold off the Nazi's.

Moore complains that sniping is cowardly because the sniper does not confront his enemy at close quarters, but from a distance. This implies that to meet an opponent hand to hand is more honorable. Ironically, this is one of the hallmarks of a primitive society. As described in Lawrence Keeley’s famous book, “War Before Civilization”, in prehistoric warfare two tribes would often meet and stand off a safe distance while individuals from either side called one another out to get or give up glory, often in the form of their head. You might wonder is modern warfare not more deadly compared to that. The answer Keeley provides is that a low average for male deaths by warfare in such societies is 60%, whereas in modern times it’s less than 2%.

Not that I am actually expecting a leftist to be consistent, but...

OK, according to whalemeat, his uncle was killed by a sniper. Snipers are cowards, unless they are defending their homes. Invaders are worse.

-But if his uncle was in Germany, or at least Europe, would that not make him the invader? And the sniper was just protecting his home land from invaders, so the German sniper is a good guy then, right?

My head is spinning...

I’ve done a little research, and apparently Moore has mentioned his uncle before...and two people named Moore may fit the bill. Both served in the Pacific theater. One of them died in the Phillipines.

Neither died where I would assume Nazis were...Europe or Africa. And no proof that a sniper killed either.

Michael Moore is the coward. I bet he didn’t say a thing when muzzies armed with Kalishnikovs shot unarmed journalists in France. I bet he doesn’t open his yap when ISIS plants IUD’s. The real cowards are birds of a feather.

“We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot you in the back.”

I remember a TV show in which the bad outlaw was complaining that his brother had been shot in the back by THE LONE RANGER!

A British officer around 1777 wrote home about how others being sent to the American Colonies needed to get their affairs in order as the American Riflemen were (gasp) targeting OFFICERS instead of enlisted men!

Sniper rifles were also popular in the Civil War on both sides.

Well gee, he had a lovely family since the most famous sniper he had heard of when young was Sgt. York. Not too many else were ever made famous that I remember.

I’m wondering if he had any uncles old enough to have even served in WWII. Beyond that, there’s the amazing coincidence that his uncle happened to have been killed specifically by a sniper. Would that information have been included in the notification that the family received?

His bio lists only that he had an uncle named LaVerne (no last name given, no indication if maternal or paternal uncle, or if related only by marriage) and that that uncle was instrumental in forming the UAW, and participated in the GM Sit Down Strike of 1936-37.

So, yes, this uncle could have been old enough, but the bio doesn't mention if he was the uncle killed in WWII, nor does it mention any other aunts/uncles at all.

Snipers are unsporting and cowardly. Soldiers should wear red coats, and march openly/

I guess he never heard of the British march back from Concord Bridge to Boston. Seems a bunch of “cowards” hid in the forest along the route and shot at them from concealment. Very cowardly./

Michael Moore: I Was Taught Snipers Were "Cowards"

I can believe your family taught you that and I can believe your family had a reason to teach you that.

However, we American's have every right to expect you to grow up and mature by now. Grow in both mind and body.

Enemy at the Gates where Russian snipers help the Russians hold off the Nazi's.

I have to nitpick a bit.

It was either the Russians holding off the Germans, or the Commies holding off the Nazis. Let's at least have the integrity to recognize that Stalin and Hitler were both epic monsters, and that German National Socialism and Russian International Communism were equally murderous totalitarian ideologies.
