Former Gov. Jesse Ventura filed suit Monday against HarperCollins, the New York publisher of the book that a federal jury in St. Paul said had defamed him.
In July Ventura won $1.8 million from the estate of Chris Kyle, the late Navy SEAL who wrote the bestselling memoir “American Sniper,” which included a subchapter about an alleged California bar fight between him and a man he called “Scruff Face” and later identified as Ventura.
Ventura, who is also a former member of a SEAL unit, successfully argued that the bar fight and disparaging remarks he made against Navy SEALs attributed to him in the book had never occurred.

He was not a SEAL:
Ventura served in the United States Navy from December 1, 1969, to September 10, 1975, during the Vietnam War era. He graduated in BUD/S class 58 in December 1970[10] and was part of Underwater Demolition Team 12[2][11]
Ventura has frequently referred to his military career in public statements and debates.[12][13][14] He was criticized by hunters and conservationists for stating in an interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune in April 2001, “Until you have hunted men, you haven’t hunted yet.”[14][15]
In January 2002, Ventura, who never specifically stated whether he fought in Vietnam, disclosed that he had not seen combat. He was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines, and for this he received the Vietnam Service Medal, given to all military personnel who supported the war effort even though stationed outside South Vietnam.[16]

Did the guy who wrote the book ever admit they never took place? Before he died, I mean.
Ventura is a poor loser.
He may have gotten the Vietnam Campaign Medal. The Service Medal is for those only with in-country experience, IIRC.
I think they mean the National Defense Service Medal.
From the way I understand it he doesn’t have much of a case this time. I don’t believe the movie has anything about Ventura getting bitch slapped in it.
