Does Mark Wahlberg want a 'white privilege' pardon?
bbc opinion ^ | 12-11-2014

According to court records, in 1988 a 16-year-old Mr Wahlberg brutally attacked a Vietnamese man named Thanh Lam with a stick while spewing racial epithets and knocking him unconscious. Seeing police, Mr Wahlberg fled and found Hoa Trinh, another Vietnamese man. He put his hand around Mr Trinh's shoulder and asked the man to help him hide.

After the police cars had passed, Mr Wahlberg punched Mr Trinh in the eye, permanently blinding him. According to the police report, during his arrest the future actor used several anti-Asian slurs. He served 45 days of a three-month sentence, all while maintaining that the crimes were not racially motivated.

Today, however, Mr Wahlberg says he's a changed man - who wants a liquor licence for his restaurant.

"I am deeply sorry for the actions that I took on the night of 8 April, 1988, as well as for any lasting damage that I may have caused the victims," he writes in the petition. "Since that time, I have dedicated myself to becoming a better person and citizen so that I can be a role model to my children and others."

A pardon would legally free Mr Wahlberg up for more than just a liquor licence for his family's Boston-based restaurant, Wahlburgers.

Well, there’s articles that says he did blind the guy and articles that says he did not blind the guy.

I have no idea what to believe at this point except that somewhere there is some suspect reporting going on.

He’s not a Christian, nor a believer in the right to bear arms.

That doesn’t mean he cannot repent of his wrongs. We should always welcome a person’s willingness to change, even if they don’t change as much as we’d like them to do so.

I’m shocked at Wahlberg’s previous violent and racist actions but if Clinton and Obama and Holder (twice) can give pardons to communist terrorists (WUO), Puerto Rican terrorists (FALN), and rich white businessman contributor to Democrats Mark Rich, and the Tabilan jihadists in GITMO, then why can’t Wahlberg apply for one?

The arrogance of this guy appalls me.

No pardon.

None.

Yah, I know, so I am a little confounded as to why articles exist saying otherwise.

My position is if the victim forgives him then, it’s forigven, and if the charges reflected the information that the punch blinded him, but that is not true, then of course they should be dropped.

Police reports can be sloppy, because police are trying to make order of often chaotic situation. I suspect the victim made mention that he was blind and the cop took that to mean that he wasn’t blind before being punched by Wahlberg and assumed Wahlberg was the one that blinded him.

The victim was nowhere to be found until now. How magical. And Marky Mark knew he blinded the guy for the past 30 years AND DID NOTHING TO FIND HIM AND MAKE AMENDS UNTIL NOW. And now the guy shows up with this story of already being blinded before this maggot beat him and forgiving the POS. How magical!

Please folks. Wise up!

Difficult to know what’s going on here for certain.

One thing that is clear is that in America the media cannot be trusted.

This guy showed up, because the journalist sought him out. He probably healed from his injuries and was able to go on with his life.

It amazes me how many people will want to hold things against people that is not theirs to hold.
