Did you like The LEGO Movie? I got Nothing from it. What did I Miss?

So there I was, resting in the hospital after my flat foot corrective surgery, when I turned the tablet sized TV on. There it was starting, on HBO, The Lego Movie, which came out early this year around February. I had heard so many things about it, meant to see it, but never made time before it left the theaters. Now I would be able to watch it for free. The movie begins, and I make an effort to suspend all disbelief for a while. I try to become a part of this little world made up of colored plastic blocks. Only thing is I saw very little to get me hooked into the plot or sub plots. I saw a featured character being pursued by various clusters of vaguely threatening creatures.

Before I could decide if I even gave a damn about this one featured character, now a victim of prey, he became involved in one looney battle after the other. It felt to me as though I was watching an old school Mario game being filmed with no real script. After ten or 12 minutes, I had had enough of waiting for something to care about. I bailed, and turned to an Animal World Special; something was on like "When The Tortoise Attacks!" By then, my pain medication was setting in, so I went to sleep. Re; The Lego Movie; I noticed no existential themes, no pro-family vignettes, no overarching moralizing or even any obvious attempts to satirize as with Team America which had Kim Jung Il singing 'I'm So Wonely'. I admit I didn't stay with the film for very long. Did someone else find The Lego Movie enjoyable? Maybe I missed something.

Its a fantasy movie for kids. Although someone else did post the 2 morals of the story that I’d forgotten about, and agree with. Otherwise dont over think it. Ruins the fun. :)

You caught the essence! Thanks for laying it out. I enjoy good animation, even as an adult.

Supposedly raves by all ages. I convinced my then 12 and 17 year-olds to see it with me on that basis. I thought they were going to kill me after, if I weren’t about to kill myself. Simply nothing special.

The Lincoln Logs movie is SOOOO much better!

But I might hold out until next summer when there's a movie coming out based on the Spirograph being attacked by an evil Woodburning set that attacks it with lawn darts.

Meh, The Tinker Toys Movie should have won the Oscar for Best Picture.

I kind of preferred it when Lego sets weren't so "goal oriented."

Time was, you could join those little bits of grossly-overpriced plastic into a form that you chose.

Now Legos is all about, "Here, build THIS SPECIFIC THING."

It was a Chris Pratt vehicle more than anything else.

If you don't like him or don't know who he is, you probably wouldn't like the movie.

My nephew and all his friend loved it - so my brother and I watched it - terrible. And they are appalled we didn't like it and demand to know why. They are all in their high teens/early 20's.

My daughter loved this movie, I thought it was OK.

To me the funniest part was the depressed batman, I sort of remember that he is trying to win the girl by telling her how depressed he is, because he’s an orphan and all.

That guy really cracked me up, the rest I could take it or leave it.

“...there’s a movie coming out based on the Spirograph being attacked by an evil Woodburning set that attacks it with lawn darts.”

You should really write that one up, you never know what those Hollyweird types will go for.

It’s definitely not the craziest movie idea I’ve ever heard!

I agree with you, and have you seen the prices of those kits? They are extremely expensive. Maybe they are really more for adults.

On Mad Men Bob gives Joan's kid an Erector Set saying "America needs engineers."

The message now is "You can buy whatever you need from China."
