Newton is listed in fair condition and is spending the night at Carolinas Medical Center, where doctors will do further tests to determine whether there is any internal damage. As it stands now, Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back. It's the same injury sustained by Dallas quarterback Tony Romo earlier in the season. That injury kept Romo sidelined for one game.

I don’t care what team he plays for, how rich he is, and even his politics (of which I have no idea).
Prayers for healing — these kinds of injuries HURT a lot and drugs just dull the hurt, they don’t stop it.

It has been reported that Byron Bell’s vehicle was spotted driving parallel with Newton but managed to avoid any contact as the vehicle blindsided Newton.
