The second photo, of the English Navy, was right at the end of the age of wind-power ships and ships-of-the-line. Very brave showing of ships destined to be obsolete within a decade. The steam powered ships coming out of the US Civil War, especially both the Monitor and the Merrimack ironclads, ended the reign of wooden ships.
