Big XII probably out for CFP [College Football/Vanity]

The big win by the Buckeyes probably put them into the final four of the College Football Playoff. The rankings by the committee (due in about 25 hours) are likely going to be:

Tide
Ducks
Noles
Bucks

I agree. The B12 lack of conf champ game should, in my opinion keep the B12 out this year. I’m a B12 fan but staying at 10 teams is stupid.

#5 Baylor will face the Spartans in the Cotton Bowl and #6 TCU will tangle with Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl.

I predict both Baylor and TCU will get crushed.

I’ve seen it before with teams who were in the hunt and don’t make it, they don’t get motivated for their bowl game (See Bama whenever they are in the Sugar Bowl)

You’ve seemed so even-handed on so many topics. I saw a recent post on another thread that mentioned this same thing from a different poster. So I’m curious, do you really still think this happened, or were you just upset last night that the Buckeyes had a chance to be in the playoffs after their win? Why would the conference tell Wsconsin to do this, and why would Wisconsin “obey”? What about Melvin Gordon? He was, in my book, a true contender for the Heisman before last night’s game. He was supposed to give that up just so that tOSU could possibly make it into the playoffs?

I wonder how many FReepers think Wisconsin threw the game.

That may turn out to be the case. With the caveat that I really don't believe in "moral victories", it's remarkable that two teams from private schools that were doormats for a long time (and often scheduled as the homecoming opposition by the big teams) have emerged to elite status in CFB. Unless I'm mistaken, yesterday was the first time that Gameday originated from Waco. The Bears were in a long rut of mediocrity (at best) after Grant Teaff.

I guess it was more being so shocked at how lackadaisical Wisconsin seemed, I thought they would at least have give OSU a tougher game.

I thought of it from a financial standpoint, the Big Ten stood to make a lot of money from having a team in the playoff, and that money goes to all of the schools. Now, let’s say Wisconsin won. Most likely the school would actually LOSE money on going to their bowl game, it’s well-documented that bowl games are money losers for schools. So now that loss is offset by the money they get from the Conference.

So there was the basis of my “conspiracy” theory. LOL.

If Wisconsin indeed took a dive, that’s pretty much what it would have looked like.

But I’ll just go with Occam’s Razor in the end and say it was just OSU’s night.

“From the Big 10 “

don’t have to be.

Texas went two years in a row to the Rose Bowl in 2005/6 and beat both the Big 10 and the Pac10 in those games.

UT is in the Big 12

Saw that. If there was a conf champ game, the B12 would be in. I hope the AD’s start looking at expansion now.

OOOOOOPS.

That was a big OOOOOOPS. I had figured the committee had moved TCU to three and FSU to four in preparation of dumping FSU completely from the process...TCU was initially moved to 3 instead of Baylor because they had Iowa State and were assured of the easy win...Baylor had to play KSU in a game that they could lose and the committee did not want to look bad if that happened, so TCU was named #3 with the thinking that the committee could set things right once FSU was out of the picture...Then Saturday happened...Alabama went out and waltzed through an outmanned Missouri, making it look easy...Then what nobody figured on, FSU and Georgia Tech had an actual football game, one that had the committee and the rest of America glued to their TV sets as the events unfolded...turns out that claims of Winston's and FSU's demise had been greatly exaggerated...I can imagine that more than one of the Heisman voters probably had the thought, "We're giving the Heisman to Marizona?"...Looking forward to the New Year's day games...

***Then what nobody figured on, FSU and Georgia Tech had an actual football game***

I’m trying to figure out who “nobody” is...because pretty much everyone knew that FSU and Georgia Tech would be a well-fought close game.

Let me take you back then...Before the game, the smart money had FSU folding like a cheap tent and Georgia Tech getting the easy win as it was evident that FSU had been greatly overrated the entire season...

Oh, the smart money. I get it now.

Sorry to disagree, but I heard nothing of the sort. I heard that it would be a great contest, and that the outcome was not a given. That’s why the games are played.

The B12 has been hanging on by the skin of their teeth, it will eventually break apart. I suspect OU (and OK State with it), will strike the final blow.

There were two or three stories on the web yesterday that basically said that FSU’s luck would run out and that they would lose to GT. I am guessing that those stories have been disappeared from the web. You are correct, that is why they play the games.
