There are still Big Boys around. I used to go to a similar skating rink and had a Woolworths and a Kresges down the street when I lived in the city.

The wife and I walked this morning and I mentioned the difference between now and when I was a kid - at 5 years old I would ride my bike the 2 miles to a local park and run around with friends or enjoy the public swimming pool (they kept boys and girls separated with separate pools in those days). No way you would trust allowing a youngster, in today's world, the freedom to play like we did back then.

You said in post39 and then 41:

Just checked your link and neat pix you’ve collected. They bring back a lot of memories.
But durn it, they make me think about how old I am, and I try so hard to forget. LOL!

I wear saddle shoes all the time during winter. Bought a pair to wear to car shows and like them so much, they’re my every-day shoes now. I wear poodle skirts to the shows too.

And I wore that stuff when I was a kid. :-)

Just think of yourself as either being in your second childhood, or late in your first :)

Rule to live by:
Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

My church does a community car show on Friday nights in the summer. From Memorial Day weekend to the end of September.

We have 220 spots in our lot, and between 3:30 and 9:00, when we close, we have on average 325 cars. Some park and stay the entire time, others just for a short while.

Most nights we run out of room on pavement and have to park cars all over the lawn.

The last 2 night this season we had 440 and 425 cars.

The last night we would have had even more as far as overall numbers, but nobody was leaving. They just parked and stayed the entire night.

I was talking with the pastor about it at the end of the season, that we need some type of lighting and to put some sound over on the other side of the church building, in the lawn area.

He said they were already looking into it.

If you're interested in more pics of our car show, just Google:

Had a ton of hot wheels — my fav was the truck with an airplane launcher in the bed!

But when I would mess up bad enough, my mom found that 3 or 4 pieces of that hot-wheels track stacked together worked as good as a belt on my rear-end...

Thank you so much for THAT information! I learned a fact from you. I’m heading to bed right now, also. good night, good morning, God bless and keep you.

I agree with onyx.

People who I only know by their handles and that we have similar beliefs and interests.

It's nice to know something a little more personal. To make them more of a person, instead of black letters on a computer screen.

You know you are getting old when you see crap from your youth that was everywhere, now becoming valuable.

I can remember spending a lot of hours racing slot cars on a track like that. I was young enough that I had to stand on a milk crate to get a proper view.

Having kid reflexes gave me a competitive edge and some of the adults took it pretty hard getting beat by a 12 yo kid.

Sweet you.

My mother passed away almost 5 years ago. She had a set of dishes she had had for over 30 yrs. We went to daughter’s house for Thanksgiving and I saw this set of dishes sitting on the counter. I said....I could swear those are Mom’s dishes. She said...they are... so I had to tell her the funny story about how Mom acquired them. Quite a laugh.

When I was a kid, we used one of those for our PC data storage. No such thing as floppy disks yet.
