New Jersey Hiker Photographed Bear Before It Killed Him

Police in West Milford have released five photos taken by 22-year-old Darsh Patel before he was killed by the 300-pound black bear while hiking with four friends in the Apshawa Preserve.
The photos show the bear behind a fallen tree in the woods. Investigators say the phone was found with puncture marks from the bear.

West Milford police and the state Environmental Protection Department said last month that the bear did not seem interested in food and exhibited “stalking type behavior.”

Charlie that was funny. Poor SOB comes all the way from India to get eaten by a bear in New Jersey. That my friend, that is truly an American thing to do. Welcome aboard and RIP, Darsh.

I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, we are constantly amazed at how close people try to get to the bison. DUMB!
A ranger told me that he watched a guy bump a bull with his big pick up truck. That bull turned and pushed the truck about 70 yards and really wrecked the front end. The bull was not amused.

The Alaska hiker was in Denali for at least 7:59 before his unfortunate end… I would’ve thought that his name was ‘Daniel’ instead.
(Hopefully he got some quality shots before the bear NAILED him ;)

Looks to me like the bear was busy answering that old question about bears, the woods, and a certain bodily function. If I saw someone taking a photo of me while I was trying to do it I would probably want to kill them too.
