WHEN did the 613 come into effect?

Those are the Laws that were given to the Hebrews...They are summed up in the 10 Commandments...They are the 10 Commandments defined...

They are also our schoolmaster in teaching us to love our neighbor and to love God...

So when one asks, 'what is sin', it should be covered in one of those 613...

But the simplicity of it all is spoken of here:

Jas_4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 is discussing unbelievers

But your post was countering the statement that "Sin is anything that seperates you from God" which was in response to "What is "Sin"?, and you make no distinction btwn believers and the lost,

Believers because they believe are in Christ, and thus follow Him and repent when convicted that they did not in some way. God also exhorts to continue in the confidence, and warns against departing from the faith, (Heb. 3:6,12,14; 10:26,38; Gal. 5:1-4) by which faith ye are saved, and works to bring them to repentance if need be, lest they be condemned with the world.(1Cor. 11:32)

Thanks be to God.

I agree that the only sin that blocks us from God is not accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

Mark 3:28-29 New International Version (NIV)

28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

Agreed. Sin means falling short of the mark.

Our sin blocks us from experiencing God.

Then how was I able to experience God?

In today's culture, which thoughts, words & deeds would be called "sins"?

Anything based in fear. There are two choices before us - fear and faith. Choosing faith means choosing to trust God. Choosing fear means not trusting God.

There has also been a lot of talk about the original sin. From back in the Garden, the original sin was independence. Independence from God. That is why Adam and Eve ate the fruit - so that they could be like God, and no longer reliant upon Him.

The purpose of Christ is to get us back in the Garden. His entire three year ministry centered on one single topic - the kingdom of heaven. In us.

God is not a micro-manager. He gave us dominion over the earth. Forever. He has no intention of taking it back, even though we in turn handed it over to satan. Yet through Christ, we can regain the dominion that God intended from the beginning back in the Garden.

I hope this helps.

“Our sin blocks us from experiencing God.”

“Then how was I able to experience God?”

Sin is to experiencing God what dirt on a window is to seeing the view on the other side. The cleaner the window the easier it is to see, the dirtier the window the harder it is to see. It is not just a black or white situation.

Sometimes the window is so dirty that it is impossible to see through at all. Other times it is very clean and the view becomes clear.

If the window is very dirty for a long period of time we often forget that there is something to view on the other side of the window.

This is the reason why the eyes are the windows to the soul.

When you look into a person’s eyes and you see the walls or barriers, there exists a physical obstruction in the person’s soul. This is one of the reasons that your child often cannot look at you after they have done something wrong.

These walls or blocks are located in the soul based upon the chronological sequence in which they occurred. When people talk about the judgement or life review process when they die it is merely their conscious awareness no longer being restricted to the physical body and it expands outward in reverse sequence through the individual’s soul field where all memories experienced during the lifetime are stored.

The reason that Love is critically important to the soul is that it is the glue that holds it together. It bonds the masculine and feminine aspects together to form a solid foundation (i.e. house built on a rock vs house built on sand). Lack of Love around and in our children creates a weak foundation for their soul to grow.

Jesus never told us to believe in Him. He told us to be “in Him.” That is what communion is all about.

He told us to believe in our Father that works through Him.

As He is One with His Father. His Father is in Him and He is in His Father. And if we are in Him, then His Father that is in Him is also in us. That is the secret to being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Keep in mind that perfect Love casts out fear.

Jesus never told us to believe in Him. He told us to be “in Him.”

Well that's a new difference without a distinction. Sounds like a way to start a new cult. For not only did He and the Spirit tell us to believe Him, in/into/on Him and His words - and condemned those who did not - but that is how to be in Him.

For neither did his brethren believe in him. (John 7:5)

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1)

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Joh 3:15-16)

And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (Joh 11:26)

While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. (John 12:36)

But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. (Mat 18:6)

For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. (John 5:46)

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (John 6:29)

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (John 17:20)

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (John 17:21)

One can only hope the same person does not now continue to deny what the scriptures clearly say; that we are to believe in Jesus...

“One can only hope the same person does not now continue to deny what the scriptures clearly say; that we are to believe in Jesus...”

I totally agree with you. That would be a disastrous slippery slope.

I read and reread John 17 quite frequently. Jesus makes it very clear that He represents our Father and our Father works through Him. I don’t just believe that He is my Savior, I know for certain that He is my Savior.

That being said, Jesus often attributed His works and messages to His Father’s Will. Jesus’ Will and God’s Will are One. Just as Jesus’ Will should be our will if we totally surrender to Him. It is impossible to get to God except by going through Jesus. He came as our intermediary or Helper to show us the Way.

My statement earlier about being in Jesus and believing in God was a bit confusing on my part as Jesus is totally aligned with God so it is impossible to be in one without being in the other and it is impossible to believe in one without believing in the other.

Jesus makes it very clear that He is not the Father but is the Son. He not only directs His own Will toward surrender to His Father but teaches us to do the same in the model prayer He gave us. The prayer is to Our Father.. not the Son. (I know, we can’t pay to God without praying to Jesus)

He goes on to call us His brothers and states that their is one Father.

Thank you for sharing the excellent scriptures... Yes, I mis-spoke when I made the statement and I offer my apologies.

I think my last post should clarify what I meant to say...

Allow me to add that I don’t just believe that Jesus is my Savior, I know for certain that Jesus is my Savior.

John 6:68
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.

God says there are seven things He hates:

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
