When Singles Day, Putin and China's first lady collided
bbc ^ | 11-11-2014

Russian leader Vladimir Putin's solicitous act of draping China's First Lady Peng Liyuan in a shawl has become a social media highlight of the Apec summit. It also ignited Chinese forums on Tuesday, which was Singles Day.

Vladimir Putin has a special place among the cast of world leaders for the Chinese public.

Perhaps it is a legacy of the fraternal relations between the Soviet Union and Mao's Communist China. But it's probably more about his macho strongman image, something generations of solemn Chinese leaders have not been noted for.

And if the First Lady needs curtains hung, she know which world leader to call.

Those of us a bit older remember that relations weren’t that great between China and the Soviet post-Stalin. Remember the border war between the two countries in the late 1960s? Artillery, tanks and infantry was used, but I don’t recall either side committing air power.

The reporter must be a young pup parroting the party line.

Perhaps it is a legacy of the fraternal relations between the Soviet Union and Mao's Communist China.

They almost went to war in 1969 and 1972, so this statement is nonsense. Chinese and Russians both, having lived under Communist regimes, have been trained to test the winds and know when a policy, country or politician is "in favor" and when they are "out of favor."

Putin and Russia are presently "in favor" and have been for a while. Both are against USA "hegemony" and both have no respect for Obama. It doesn't mean they love each other, it just means their interests are closely aligned at the moment.

Oh yes, you see Bush is an alien and has these secret powers. Angela could not resist him. Haven’t you heard about the UFOs which were chased by our jets when they headed to the Crawford Ranch, flying right over Stephenville, TX?

Yes, the Soviets and the Red Chinese had fraternal relations, just as Cain and Abel did, or Jacob and Esau.

The Sino-Soviet split began about 1959.

Very real.

If you or I did that on the job we’d be fired on the spot.

At least Putin is regarded as a manly man. Our guy is rather embarrassing.

Apparently so. It must be from an outlet that doesn’t like FR. Too bad, it is a priceless photo!
