Gov. Scott Walker opens 7-point lead over Mary Burke in last MU poll before election
Milwaukee Biz Journal ^ | 10/29/2014 | Ron Kirchen

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker apparently regained his stride with likely voters, opening a 7-percentage-point lead over Democratic challenger Mary Burke, according to a new Marquette Law School poll.

The Marquette poll, which has an excellent track record for predicting Wisconsin election results, found that 50 percent of likely voters support Walker compared with 43 percent for Burke. Those figures represent a major shift from previous polls that showed the race neck-and-neck including an Oct. 15 poll where Walker and Burke were tied at 47 percent among likely voters.

The reason for the changing tide in the Wisconsin governor's race is the shifting turnout intentions of voters, poll director Charles Franklin said. More Walker supporters say they will vote than do Burke supporters, Franklin said. The Walker advantage exceeds the poll's margin of error, which is plus or minus 3 percentage points for likely voters. This is the last MU Law School poll before the election.

The poll was conducted Oct. 23 through Oct. 26. It included 1,409 registered voters with 1,164 of them saying they are likely to vote.

Among registered voters, the race remained close with Walker garnering support from 46 percent of those polled and Burke, 45 percent.

In the previous poll released Oct. 15, Burke bounced back from a short-lived deficit to a tie with Walker among likely voters at 47 percent each.

Four percent of likely voters remained undecided as of the Oct. 15 poll, according to the MU poll released Wednesday afternoon. Burke had added support from voters who are independents in the previous poll.

In the state attorney general's race, the Marquette poll found that Republican Brad Schimel has the support of 43 of likely voters to Democrat Susan Happ's 39 percent. Fourteen percent of likely voters remain undecided in the attorney general's race.

God I hope this is true. If Walker and Brownback and LePage are reelected, it will depress liberals to no end!

Don’t get too excited...we may find that 100000 dead people voted, hundreds of thousands of people voted in multiple precincts because they forgot where they were supposed to vote, same day registration failed to catch almost a million immigrants from voting because they needed no ID and though they could vote (don’t blame them)...

That will no doubt happen, but they don’t have a lot of time to pull it off in the numbers they will need in order to overcome the MOE.

Last week’s early voting numbers were about equal to the last recall (about 90,000). Only 10% of those early votes came from Milwaukee and Madison.

Mentioned at AoS Decision Desk:

Totals include mail-ins & in-person.
Early vote Madison: 12,277
Early vote Brookfield: 4,215
Madison has more than six times the population.

And that’s only Brookfield. The WOW counties will lead the way again.

I just sent Walker fifty bucks. This is the most important election in the country, IMHO.

Concur. This is the most important race in the nation. Walker is our generation’s Reagan. And the unions, DNC and Clinton machine are desperate to destroy Walker b/c they are terrified of his record and blue collar appeal.

In the 2012 recall, Marquette final poll had Walker +7 among LVs. Final result: Walker +7.

Scott Walker is the man!! I donated $50 to him last week, he is a hero, no complaining just optimism and confidence. He does not back down, even when his life and his family's life are threatened by the jack booted union members, shame on them.

I so wish I could pull the lever for Walker, but I am in Oregon, which is poised to get rid of a three term Governor for a really great R candidate. Dennis Richardson is his name and today he is neck and neck with the incumbent, but Portland gets to vote, so it will be very close.

BTW our Governor spent $300 million on our obamacare website, called cover Oregon and it has signed up about 0 people, literally 0 people, a total bust all money squandered, they have nothing to show for the $300 million and like a typical liberal, he did not resign he is running for his fourth term. Plus his live in the governors mansion girlfriend is undergoing an ethics violation for profiting from her position as first girlfriend.

And there are voters that are actually going to vote for him for the fourth time. He is alot like CA's moonbeam.

And let’s not forget the college students who vote in their college town, at home, and at their auntie’s, as well as the absentee ballot in Uncle Buck’s town ...
