While Michelle Obama’s skimpy school lunch mandates have been widely rejected by students and schools, the elite private school attended by both Obama daughters will be serving chicken wings and potato chips on Wednesday.
Sidwell Friends is the elite private school with a $36,264 tuition per child where President Obama sent his daughtersinstead of Cardozo high school, a government-run school in Washington, D.C.
After Wednesday’s chicken wings , on Thursday Obama’s daughters can get a Cuban sandwich. Pasco County Schools in Florida had to eliminate Cuban sandwiches because they violated Michelle Obama’s lunch standards.
Land O’ Lakes High had gone one better, pressing its own Cuban sandwiches that definitely exceed the calorie limits, she said.
“No way can we fit Cubans on the menu any more,” Hedine said.
Next week, students at Sidwell Friends can enjoy Philly Cheese Steaks ; and they will have meatball submarines the following week. Veterans Day is not a holiday at Sidwell Friends, and beef nachos are on the menu. Nachos, wings, chips and cheesesteaks – lunch fare most American kids can only dream about now.

How does Michelle Obama set lunch policy or enforce it? She is not a government official. And if she was, she’d be a federal executive officer, where schools are run by states and counties.

I’ve wondered the same thing, I suppose the same way 0bambam goes around Congress and ignores laws on the books.

School lunches in America are subsidized with billions of taxpayer dollars. Virtually every school district gets a significant portion of their food budget from the Feds. So if they don’t comply with the federal rules, they don’t get the cash. That’s how they do it.
Personally we’re I a school superintendent I’d tell the Feds to go pee up a rope and keep the money. Then I would direct the schools to charge enough to cover the costs.

We need to return to our language and ignore the wordsmiths of the press and Government. After all, we got by with “appearances” for a few centuries.

I love all that except Idaho Wedges and Tuna Pasta Salad.
At least they’re getting their money’s worth. Must be nice. Too bad we all can’t afford to eat like that.

school lunch managers should get ahold of Sidwell’s lunch menu and copy it - to the chip.
I’d have to see how they put the tuna pasta salad together and what other ingredients are in there. Knowing Sidwell, it’s REAL fresh-caught tuna, not canned. LOL
