In case anyone needed another reason to love chocolate, a new study suggests that a natural compound found in cocoa, tea and some vegetables can reverse age-related memory loss.

The findings suggest that the compound increases connectivity and, subsequently, blood flow in a region of the brain critical to memory, the researchers said.

Researchers said that if a person had the memory of a typical 60-year-old at the beginning of the study, after three months, on average, that person’s memory would function more like a 30- or 40-year-old’s. The researchers also cautioned that more work is needed because of the study’s small sample size.

To Improve a Memory, Consider Chocolate

“And while researchers also had half of the healthy but sedentary participants in each group exercise four days a week, surprisingly, the exercise had no effects on memory or brain effects.”

“To consume the high-flavanol group’s daily dose of epicatechin, 138 milligrams, would take eating at least 300 grams of dark chocolate a day...”

Not new.

My father liked a glass of red wine in the evening and dark chocolate during the day, one or two squares at a time.

He made to mid-90s :)

the spice Rosemary. Just the smell helps memory.
Those exposed to rosemary were 60-75% more likely to remember to perform tasks than those not exposed to the essential oil.

" a natural compound found in cocoa, tea and some vegetable"

The article never says which flavanol, they just say "flavanol" over and over.

My wife hot cocoa almost daily. Traditonal Colombian style. We use water not milk and the results arte great. Have heard cocoa is great for ex smokers...something to do with the lungs...and also memory...and will let you sleep like a bay! Taste good too! African cocoa is for heathens, low class scum and other Democrats.
