i think there would be people that would do it for several related reasons. not that i’d agree, but they would be - quality protein, dealing with potential attackers, security concerns, limited resources for current location, develop a reputation for others to stay away.

The Karankawa indians along the TX coast did very well for hundreds of years due to their reputation of cannibalism.

but before that i think they somehow get rick and that may be how he loses his hand, if they are trying to somewhat follow the comic.
