“I’ll Come To Your Place When SHTF” – No You Won’t
SHTF Plan ^ | 10/22/14 | Glen Tate

Posted on 10/24/2014 8:03:16 PM PDT by Kartographer

I tried to persuade you to prepare for what’s coming and, in the process, revealed that to you that I’m preparing. You realized that I have food, guns, etc., and ended up saying, half kidding but half serious, “I’ll come to your place when SHTF.”

No you won’t. I will shoot you. If you threaten me and my family, I will use force to defend against any threat. And showing up at my place hungry and unprepared is a threat to me. You will eat my food and use up my medical supplies, generator, firewood, etc. That’s less of these life-saving things for me and my family. That’s a threat.

Is this greed on my part? No. I will take care of the truly needy – those who cannot take care of themselves. But you are different. Very different. You had plenty of chances to prepare for yourself.

It is a fact, it is not radiation but internal civil war chaos which kills in nuclear war.

People roll their eyes at me until they find out what I have, and then they get real interested. None ofy family members want to see me when I drive by their place, but when I mentioned I had free cruise tickets, all of a sudden I became a real interesting person. I give up. The same plays out during hard times.

The hard truth is that in a prolonged national shutdown situation, folks depending on insulins and other vital meds will probably die after about 6 months. Cancers will take their course for there wouldn’t be any available treatments for them. Folks will have to be careful with cuts and injuries for infections will rage.

Famine will rage as folks won’t know how to grow crops and even if they could get plantings in at the right time, most seeds are hybrids and won’t be available in a national SHTF situation. All the suburb dwellers who currently like the ‘cute’ deer wandering thru their neighborhoods will find that more resourceful neighbors are culling those deer for food.

Local political situations will become very fluid with some regions coming under the control of warlords who aren’t very constitutional minded. There will be a lot of violence, a lot of misery and a lot of death.

As soon as a critical mass of “good people” join you...you may find that you’ll start to lose control of the situation....you may find yourself “out duked” by a majority of your “good fellow comrades” who want to go in a different direction. If a SHTF scenario should be in play, you’ll find no help with any law enforcement to help rid yourself of any unwanted “house guests” who “voted” en mass to choose other leaders of your “farm house” town!

Assuming some sort of total societal breakdown from whatever cause, it’s highly unlikely that an individual, couple or family unaccustomed to completely going it alone would succeed in doing so when forced into it due to circumstance. Different sorts of arrangements need to be envisioned. Teaming up with likeminded individuals and groups would just about be the only other alternative. It would pay to pay attention to the nature of authorities in the jurisdiction of any planned place of safety. Would they be hostile or supportive? Same of the locals. There are always risks when thrown in with other people, sometimes even those you think you know well. Therefore it’s never wise to let anyone know everything you know. Hold some things back for your own protection.

“Local political situations will become very fluid with some regions coming under the control of warlords who aren’t very constitutional minded. There will be a lot of violence, a lot of misery and a lot of death.”

And these are the cold hard facts! A small organized group wanting what you have will take it. You can’t tend crops because you would expose yourself, your generators will be disabled, your fuel sources destroyed. You won’t even be able to stick your head above ground! They will have the advantage from start to finish. A single family unit is helpless against this and history has proven it time and time again. An attacking party can bring in resources from the outside, the defending party is limited by why what they have on hand.

No doubt at the beginning, there will be turmoil and death.

But it will soon run out.

At least in terms of “wandering marauders” or whatever... the lifespan of a typical “wandering marauder” can be measured in weeks... or even days.

“Teaming up with likeminded individuals and groups would just about be the only other alternative.”

Again we only have to look back in history. The bones of thousands who thought they could go it alone are scattered all over the US. It was only when they came together in numbers where they able to defend what they had. Early Americans came together and built structures they could defend and even then many were lost.

An organized group can destroy everything you have above ground in a matter of a few hours, sending you underground and at that point it’s over.

Got cable/sat TV? Cell phone? Internet? Car payment? Eat out? Buy clothes new at the retail store?

Stop. Turn it all off. Buy items that store well. One food item for today, one for an emergency. You can do it w/o being needy.

Marauders will not disappear; they will become an increasingly more dangerous problem. As the weak and stupid ones are killed off, the smart and strong will organize and gain power. Murder and theft will be their only source of supplies and they will become very adept at the black arts and many will be wearing badges.

History proves that evil men can be just as resourceful as the honest. Intelligence, leadership and charisma are not relegated to the good men. In a total TEOTWAWKI situation, the least obvious may rise to prominence and become strong leaders on either side.

People will band together out of necessity, or they will die alone. That doesn’t mean some sort of socialist or communist utopia, nor taking in random strangers into your home. It means like minded individuals creating a society built on mutual trust based on honest work, skills and an understanding of mutual defense.

Preps and a plan are good. You have already spilled the beans on your preparations and plan. Since the retreat area belongs to Coors, you surely don’t think you are the only one who will be there.

Lets get real. Stored goods are about the only way one might make it through a breakdown. There are not enough “bunnies and deer” to provide.

In a shtf event even the peppers are in trouble. Disease, the neighbors, and our own families will be a problem. A lot of people are going to get killed by the daughter’s boyfriend or the worthless son in law. Everybody has the fantasy that roving bands of black men are going g to be terrorizng the countryside but I think the real killers are going to closer to home.

Uninvited “visitors” are welcome to the extent that they bring more of value than they take in return. That includes their absolute recognition that what’s mine is mine - taking my undisputed ownership of my property is an offense that cannot be balanced by any return. If they can work and produce something of value - skilled farming, metalwork, guard duty, reaction force skills, they may well be welcome. Traders may be welcome if they are well-behaved and covered by one of my family members during negotiations. Eventually, even after SHTF, trade will become extremely important.

Otherwise, any dispute over whether “visitors” are permitted on my property will be very short. Key supplies for responding to guests who feel entitled to things that are not theirs: ammo, a shovel, and the ability to avoid discussing the outcome.

A little at a time. Baby steps. That is the process i’m using. Do I have a larder of food for a year? Nope. But what I have is accumulating. A few cans here, some water there. Getting close to busting loose for a generator.

Start today. It wont look like much. But do it.
