Peyton Manning Has Had It With Broncos Scoreboard Operator
cbs/ap ^ | October 24, 2014 9:21 AM

Manning wasn’t happy when the Broncos were trying to chew up the clock in the closing minutes and the Denver crowd was going crazy. That forced Manning to try to quiet down a stadium of 76,907 by himself, frantically waving his arms like a big bird, then shaking his head in disbelief.

...

“I’m not sure what he’s doing, he’s playing music and showing players dancing and getting the crowd fired up when we have the ball,” Manning said. “I don’t think we should be doing that. I don’t think we should be showing their quarterback on the sideline. I thought that was disrespectful.

...

Rivers wasn’t as bothered.

“I really don’t know how to respond to that other than if you had told me when I was 10 years old they would show me in front of 75,000 and get booed and Peyton Manning in the same clip and get cheered, I’d say that’s pretty awesome,” he said, according to the Denver Post.

Wasn’t thinking to realize the Rivers reference wasn’t to the scoreboard operator. Yeah, probably disrespectful, but I’d presume what Manning really wanted was for the operator not to gin up noise at the wrong time for the Broncos’ play.

It’s not staged outrage, he was asked a question and he answered.

Yeah, that is what I got out of it. It probably screws Manning up more than most QBs to not be able to audible easily.

You would penalize the team on the field for what a board operator does? How about fining the board operator instead?

“Repeated as many times as necessary until the crowd shuts up.”

Ah, here is a math question for you: Assuming that the crowd would never shut up then how many 15-yard penalties would it take to result in a ‘safety’ or a ‘touchdown’ in the other direction? ;-)

“Peyton Manning has never been anything other than a class act and a winner.”

Oh! You obviously have forgotten that he was caught involved in a ‘panty-raid’ in college? ;-)

Some have tried to smear him for that! I call it a legitimate rite-of-passage! ;-)

I could have sworn that during one of the counts I heard someone on one of the teams yell out “Bruce Wayne”

Well, I haven’t heard about him doing anything stupid, like drunken brawls or posing for Playgirl or something

Yeah it was two incidents. He was asked about the scoreboard having the crowd make noise when the offense had the ball. Then he went on to say he thought it was rude of the scoreboard guys to put up pictures of the other team on the sideline to get people to boo. Manning always tries to go for the high ground, I don’t know if he’s really that nice, but he knows to look that way in public.

I noticed several times Manning going up to the line and trying to quiet the crowd. I thought “How stupid are these fans?”. Didn’t know the scoreboard operator was getting them riled up. Manning was right for rebuking him,.....or more likely her. :)

I’m sure he remembers Fla with a quiet moment every year when he’s in the playoff.
