Police Kill Hatchet-Wielding Man Who Bludgeoned Fellow Cop
Gothamist ^ | 10/23/2014 | Christopher Robbins

Police were responding to a dispute between the man and a woman, the Post reports

“The cops yelled ‘Drop it!’” said rattled eyewitness Larry Bethune, 44, of Hollis, Queens, recalling the moment the psycho pulled a small hatchet from his jacket.

“And he lunged at one of them,” the witness remembered. “He raised his arm up high and brought it straight down on the cop’s head.

“The cop went down to the ground, face first. It was horrible. I’ve never seen anything like that on Jamaica Avenue,” he added. “The cop’s just lying there with blood pouring down his face. He didn’t move.”

There are reports in the typical MSM covering this story. None reveal that these 'rookie' officers were responding to a domestic violence call, so I posted this link to the Gothamist instead.

He didn’t raise the hatchet over his head to attack, he was raising his hands to surrender. /sarc

If they’d shot him before he’d been able to hit the cop in the head, the lefty rabble rouser cop-haters would be screaming murder.

They still may.

Jim, there are several comments at the various reports complaining that these ‘rookie’ cops were trigger happy and unecessarily shot an innocent female bystander. The world is beyond nuts if that attitude prevails.

The hatchet is used in his industry. He is a lumberjack and he was chopping trees when police shot him...

Do I need the /s...?

Was this a registered or unregistered hatchet? Was the perp licensed to carry such a weapon? New Yorkers want to know Mr. Mayor.

The NBC article posts a different version of events as filtered through the Police Commissioner:

40,000 Patients' Medical Records Stolen From Office: Cops The officers, all recent graduates of the Police Academy assigned to the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica, were asked to pose for a picture by a freelance photographer at the intersection of 162nd Street and Jamaica Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. when the man attacked them from behind, Police Commissioner William Bratton said.

The suspect "charged at the officers with a hatchet in his hand," Bratton said. "Unprovoked and not speaking a word, the male then swung at one of the officers with a hatchet, striking his right arm. After striking that officer, the suspect continuing swinging the hatchet, striking a second officer in the head."

I have a feeling that while he may be a lumberjack, he is definitely not okay.
