Muslim nurses in the UK have now been granted the option of participating in medical operations without washing their hands. If this gives you the willies and makes you feel a bit icky inside, it should. Washing hands is a basic tenet of good hygiene and helps prevent the spread of diseases and infections, especially to those most susceptible to them, such as individuals receiving an operation. Check out the reason given by these nurses to justify this insanity.

Have to read the article to see that they have to wear special gloves. It is not like their unwashed hands are touching patients. Not supporting this craziness but just noting what I read in the article.

As a B-707/DC-8 pilot in Africa, one of our biggest contracts was flying the Muslims to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj. Since many of them came “out of the bush”, and had never seen a Western toilet (not to mention an airplane), the flight attendants had to repeatedly enter the lavatories and partially fill the sinks with water. If not, they would do their ritual washing with “blue water”.
(And yes, it’s true - someone once attempted to build a fire on the floor in order to heat their tea.)
