Good movie. I picked the whole series a couple months ago, at the Titan Missile Museum.
Thanks. Sounds like it’s worth a look later.
The movie is great as a double feature with The Atomic Cafe (1982), which is a collection of the movies and other information put out by the government at the time, without commentary.

The video is I think still available on Netflix and the sound track was on I- tunes. Most impressive footage was a nuclear tipped Thor missile blowing up on the launch pad at the Pacific test range. The bomb did fortunately not detonate, but I bet there was a collective need to change underwear.
I believe one test, the bomb strength was underestimated or it detonated too soon. Gave everybody a good dose.
Bttt.
5.56mm
I bought this DVD back when it first came out and I roll it out for viewing every time there is a significant terrorist attack, so it seems I already have my viewing schedule settled for this evening.
That was the Castle Bravo test in 1954. The physicist miscalculated the yield by at least half; the actual yield was 15 Mt (largest nuke in US history) instead of the estimated 4 to 8 Mt. They screwed up on how an isotope of lithium would react. A Japanese fishing got irradiated.
I have this film on VHS and have loved it for years. Quite the film....quite.
Now I can DL it and have a nice digital copy. Thanks for posting.
