Ever wonder why your avowed-conservative brother and fervently-liberal aunt can't even seem to agree on the facts?
It's because "when it comes to getting news about politics and government, liberals and conservatives inhabit different worlds," according to a Pew Research Center study published on Tuesday.
Conservatives say they trust Fox News and not much else. Liberals say they trust many news outlets, but not Fox.
Among other things, the study underscores Fox's unique position in the media marketplace, thanks to what it calls the "strong allegiance" that conservatives have to Fox.
These Americans, and their counterparts on the left, are not totally isolated from opposing sources. "Nearly half (47%) of across-the-board conservatives -- and 59% of across-the-board liberals -- say they at least sometimes disagree with one of their closest political discussion partners," Pew noted.
These disagreements often take place on Facebook, which is also a top source of political news, according to the study.
But local TV news outranks Facebook as the most-frequently-named source. Forty-nine percent of respondents said they received news about politics and government from local TV in the past week; 48% named Facebook; 44% named CNN; 39% named Fox News; and 37% named NBC News.
For perspective's sake, 14% said YouTube had been a source of politics and government news in the past week, and 9% named Twitter.

Yeah. That explains a great deal.
The liberal's explanation of why Fox News attracts a bigger audience than the other networks combined fits their world view that the vast majority of Americans are too dumb to make the "right"decisions in their lives and must have liberal elites and big government make these decisions for them.
Tell your dear wife that the knuckle draggers don’t watch fox - too liberal!!!
We knuckle draggers don’t watch TV, it’s all just too much vomit in a plunger.
What is a news program - a couple few facts spewed over a half hour, repeated ad nauseum until the next day. People, life goes on outside!
Problem is, having a spouse with those viewpoints, it’s not just a simple political disagreement, it’s basic issues of right and wrong.
How long have you been married?
Although my wife was never a staunch liberal, her views moved toward mine over time. She is now more conservative than me in some ways.
Look at the biggest rating markets for Fox News. Are NYC, Boston, Chicago and LA knuckle-dragger territory? BTW, there are many conservatives and libertarians in my home of NYC. We are not so demonstrative in public because the lefties here are both extreme in their progressive lunacy and obnoxious in their self-certainty...
What is with the pathological obsession with stomach contents and upset? Isn’t there any way for you to express yourself without dragging down the discourse on FR to previously unheard of levels of disgust and depravity? Or are you an example of the “new” improved American?
News in just a case made, much like a lawyer.... Oops, that is the problem when Lawyers take over politics - everything results in an argument and must be decided by case law. Even headlines are used as opening statements in framing the argument. I rest my case, you be the jury.
In his Man in the Arena speech, Theodore Roosevelt pointed out the superiority of performance - even flawed performance - over criticism. But critics object to being told that they dont count in the same way as the performer does. And since journalists are all critics, never performers, they are in a constant battle for relevance and even dominance. And they consider that alls fair in love and war. That, IMHO, is what makes journalists liberal."
She must think highly of THE GREAT RJ. How does this work in the real world.
[ Basically most people are liberals when they are young. But some, like Colmes for instance, never grow up. ]

Yes. The real world and pretend ones.
