Politicians Should Never Do This If They Want To Be Elected-Hillary Clinton's Body Language

Full Title: Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2982: Politicians Should Never Do This If They Want To Be Elected - Hillary Clinton's Body Language Faux Pas

If you want to build rapport with an audience or the voting public, don't do what Hillary Clinton does throughout much of this video clip. She is being poorly coached regarding her body language. While it is true that a conventional steeple does project power along with assertiveness and an alpha persona - it should be used extremely sparingly, only for a second or two and at very specific and important moments of a speech, interview or debate.

As with most alpha signals, those who use them tend to over-use them - which is exactly what Mrs. Clinton is doing during this speech. The logic that "more is better" absolutely does not apply here. So what in very small doses is an alpha nonverbal, when used just a bit more becomes a rapport destroyer. Too much conventional steeple projects arrogance, condescending and patronizing emotional tones. It destroys likability. And likability is THE primary influencing factor when it comes to winning over the swing-voter. The largest component of likability is the nonverbal portion followed by vocal qualities (aka paralanguage) with the actual words being spoken counting for a distant third.

When we like someone, we strongly tend to minimize our disagreements. And when someone is disliked, we artificially hyper-inflate those same points of contention. Likability is of course a commonly polled metric in the political world - yet essentially no one breaks it down to its components or has any systematic way of improving upon it. Thus politicians who rely on their autopilot will often crash and burn.

Then why are her poll numbers so high?

MOST main/lamestream media is still controlled by Democrats. They will put her poll numbers high even if they have to LIE.

Nooooooo, they wouldn't do THAT. That wouldn't be right.

Are we all going to watch the Democrat National Convention? Barf alert. I would rather watch golf or sewing than the DNConvention. I love to PLAY golf, but WATCH it? ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Didn't watch the vid (too close to Halloween).

That said, I have noticed that Hillary's body language and facial countenance not project sincerity or warmth (or honesty).

Put that together with her grating voice (she could do the voice of one of the witches on a Disney cartoon), and you have a prefect storm of...

...(drum roll)...

America's Mother-in-law, aka Hillary.

.

"Body language" is highly overrated by commercial "consultants." It really is marginally significant under ordinary circumstances.

America's Mother-in-law, aka Hillary.

I think someone nailed her back in the 90's, as "Everyone's first ex-wife."

They should have her throw out the first pitch at the World Series - but instead of a baseball she should throw an ashtray at a picture of Bill or Monica.

In my experience as a speech and debate coach, you are very wrong. That is not just theory, it is fundamentals than helped many kids improve and do better at tournaments. Those tournaments used judge pools of ordinary people. It does make a big difference, especially when the body language is off or does not match the verbal.

One thing I am thankful for, so far, Hillary has kept her strange Witches’ Cackle to a minimum. When she wants to, Hillary can emit a loud, harsh and profoundly disturbing, ‘laugh’, that is more frightening than funny.

I’m thinking the same thing. Body Language is good for a novice to learn, but for someone like Hillary, who has her own style and doesn’t have to change unless she’s pandering, that rule book doesn’t apply. Sarah Palin is the same way. Sometimes the energy one projects, or their personal charm can override mistakes or odd ways of saying things.

Ooooo, no one would "nail" her, that's just sick.
