Anyone else notice WJAS was on and off over the weekend and yesterday. Mostly off. People were calling my station complaining.
Almost a YEAR without Quinn and Rose! It is unbearable.
When I got off work yesterday - around 4:20 - the station was clear as a bell. Then, half an hour later, it was gone. I wonder what’s up?

What IS up w/WJAS? Yesterday (I went into work at 4—THX ObamaCARE for the hrs cut) but listening to a Rush...in out...commercials over the show airing; same at the beginning of Hannity (who was doing a great piece on islam—commercial aired OVER his taped segment).
Anywho...for ANY one who thinks the CDC are the smartest people in the room...there is a FR EBOLA thread (I still can’t copy/paste even w/openning FR in a 2nd page since iOS 8.0.2) that six months ago, the CDC would have said what it happening NOW would not happen!

For awhile Sunday there was a howl/buzz on WJAS. They have 2 transmitters. If one was bad they should just switch to another.
I do know that most of the time no one is there. Everything is automated. Even so at the very least the program director or engineer should be able to do something.
I have run our Pgh station from my cell phone.
Whoever is in charge at WJAS must not have anyone assigned to monitor the program. They did a better job with the radio station in my high school. Also, it appears that they have almost no sponsors for Rush’s show...commercials are almost all PSA’s.

Well I’m in Boston and can’t hear the station locally but while howl and buzz could be a trans. problem, if it’s not long from sunset or sunrise it could be an AM radio problem.

To all: Stations sometimes have to power down or change pattern as we get into night, and in the time just before then you may get interference, howls, etc.

Nighttime Number of Towers 2
So there’s a power decrease and a change in pattern and some times of year before the change goes into effect you get a weaker signal or one with interference. Here in Boston I live just to the east of WRKO 680 (Rush, Levin, Howie Carr etc)
and at night they have to push their signal north and south to avoid interfering with other stations. And before the switch, there’s problems with the signal.
Maybe that’s the situation with WJAS.
(I come to Pitt. twice a yr and the next time will prob be around July for the furry convention, visiting friends, and tourist stuff)
The WJAS tower(s) are just to the E of the Pitt. Zoo & PPG Aquarium, SE of the intersection of Rt 8 (Washington Blvd) and Rt 130 (Allegheny River Blvd)
Since WJAS runs nothing but paid infomercials over the weekend, I never would have noticed that they were off.
Yep. I’ve noticed the same thing. The only local advertiser who appears to be buying on Rush’s show was a hypnotist.
Just like when 1360 was running Mark Levin. The automation would cut him off in mid-sentence to run a string of 8 to 10 Liberal PSA’s.
Sucks that they traded in Joe Paggs for Dave Ramsey.
I’d rather listen to news talk over finance any day.

Renda sales continue. This time Jacksonville.
Pittsburgh-based Renda Broadcasting Corporation has sold two of its Jacksonville FM stations. AllAccess reports today that WSOS-FM (94.1 Fruit Cove) and WMUV-FM (100.7 Brunswick, GA) have been sold to Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting for $3.7 Million. This will leave WCNE (99.9) and and WEJZ (96.1) in Renda’s Jacksonville portfolio. Locally Renda sold WJAS (1320) earlier this year.
