If you live anywhere near water buy marine gasoline. It is refined without ethanol so that it will store well. They do this because boats don’t get used all the time and ethanol turns to varnish and ruins everything after a while in storage.

After SHTF...if you’re driving around while everyone else is walking...you’re just a target.

It's dumb to store that much gasoline 100 yards away from your house. If it goes up in flames, no guarantee your house will escape the inferno. Once somebody else finds out it's there, look for it to disappear in the middle of the night. And spare me the nonsense about how you are going to keep guard on your shed 24/7 with your assault rifles.
Prepping is all well and good if you are looking to get through the aftermath of a hurricane or ice storm that causes power to be out for an extended period of time. Having a month or two of basic supplies is always a good idea. But if we are truly in a SHTF situation, the preppers will quickly become targets of a desperate mob. That means anybody running generators, showing up at the store with bars of gold or otherwise drawing attention to themselves.
Much better to barter your services in such times. Those who can build things, fix things, provide medical services and otherwise make themselves useful in a post-apocalyptic society will have a much better chance of riding it out then somebody trying to hunker down with a huge cache of supplies.

You do realize that if everyone hoards gas it will go the way of .22 long rifle cartridges.

Stabilize/treat it, use it in your car as you go. It will be no good in a year or two no matter what, so have a plan for after.

I tried to store some gasoline once. Didn't work out too well.

Go diesel.
Way easier and safer to store for long periods, and way easier to make for yourself should the need arise.

Diesel fuel is far safer and better to store. There’s wood gasification, but that would require some previous steel work skills, skills in mechanics, technical safety knowledge (relief valves and materials) and much other knowledge in advance.
For gasoline, though, find as many ways to cut back on driving and conserve fuel first. Then don’t store much. Smaller containers would be best. It won’t be good very long, even with a stabilizer. Store it away from sunlight but not in a building. There are drums that are suitable for storage, but vents, proper, non-sparking dispensing hardware and other things need to be studied in advance.
There are also bicycles and animals to ride, for those with land and hay in rural areas. A yak ox would be cool to ride and a challenge to break. ;-)

I made the switch from gasoline to propane.
Even with the addition of
Sta-bil the gasoline will go bad before you need it.
