BasNews, Erbil

Early Tuesday morning, Kurdish Peshmerga forces attacked Islamic State (IS) militants in Rabia and Zumar in Northern Iraq and were able to take control of Rabia, a strategically vital town on the Iraq - Syria border.

According to Peshmerga in the area, Kurdish forces have begun an operation to re-take the areas surrounding Sinjar. They plan to open a route that will facilitate the liberation of the majority-Yazidi town in northern Iraq.

BasNews has learned that a large Kurdish force has been sent to the area to start the operation and they currently control Rabia town center, an essential position in the fight against IS insurgents.

Meanwhile, Peshmerga commander Mussa Gardi told BasNews that they are now in Rabia and continue to press forward.

“At the moment Peshmerga are inside Rabia and planes have ceased shelling. We have captured the bodies of two IS members, one of which is Chechen,” Gardi said via mobile phone from Rabia.

He also confirmed the death of a Peshmerga in this morning’s clashes.

Gardi reiterated the importance of Rabia, as a gateway town to Sinjar, which has been under the control of IS militants since early August.

I predict that the leader of ISIS, will eventually leave the area with all the stolen money and find refuge in some rogue country. Who knows where, maybe Saudi Arabia?

Maybe Yemen... depends on whether he wants to be a retired sellout or a revolutionary.

The Kurds can’t do it alone. Unless the “alliance” commits motivated infantry to engage ISIS, this “war” will not be won.
