ISIS fighters now 'at the gates of Baghdad

Fierce fighting has been reported on the outskirts of Baghdad where ISIS militants are attempting to seize control of the Iraqi capital - despite ongoing Western airstrikes against the terror group.

The fighting is taking place just one mile to the west of the city, with government forces desperately trying to hold off the militants, who allegedly killed up to 1,000 soldiers during clashes yesterday.

ISIS have held a number of towns and villages close to the Iraqi capital since earlier in the year, when government troops melted away following a lightning advance in the west of the country - enabling the terrorist group to seize further swaths of territory for their so-called caliphate.

This is very serious stuff going on. Everyone should be very concerned. With our borders wide open and mid eastern engineering students in U.S going missing all of a sudden, and total ineptitude in the White House we could be looking at some very ugly times ahead right here in our country.

If ISIS enters Baghdad, we will not be able to easily evacuate the American forces. It will be time to call Broken Arrow. Bring in the B-2s, B-52s, and everything else. Get ready to drop in the 82nd, etc.

“the fall of Baghdad or the establishment of an ISIS state would be a strategic disaster for Iran.” — Agreed. Especially now that Obama also refocusing on overthrowing Assad in Syria.

The Kurds were complaining of not having heavy weapons to match I.S. weeks ago, and whatever they got was delayed and insufficient. A lot of guff and PR around ‘coalition’ bombing I.S. etc.. but in reality it seems whatever is being done is ineffective. Maybe they really don’t want I.S. gone.

If I was Iran, would I rather face the US backed cabal of oil sheiks or a disorganized band of fanatics with no running water and no international recognition.

They're not disorganized, actually from what we've seen, they've been very organized. What if the "oil Sheikhs" in the Gulf are also the ones helping them, at least in parts? No one wants to outwardly recognize what has been labelled a "terrorist group", supporting them surreptitiously is something else. I.S. is in Iraq to stay, perhaps with another name-change down the track.

Thanks for this report.

Our Sunni President Iman Obozo’s mediots have kept this off the front pages.

“The advance by ISIS toward Baghdad shows that the group isn’t weakening despite U.S.-led airstrikes in Iraq. ISIS executed 300 Iraqi soldiers last week during their march toward the Iraqi capital and attempted to break into a prison in northern Baghdad.

Iraqi Kurdish troops drove Islamic State fighters from a strategic border crossing with Syria on Tuesday and won the support of members of a major Sunni tribe, in one of the biggest successes since U.S. forces began bombing the Islamists.

The victory, which could make it harder for militants to operate on both sides of the frontier, was also achieved with help from Kurds from the Syrian side of the frontier, a new sign of cooperation across the border.....http://www.benlatestnews.com/2014/09/top-news-kurds-seize-iraqsyria-border.html

The rest of the civilized world has got to step up. It's obvious that Obama has neither the intelligence nor knowledge to handle this situation, and he's removed from his decision making circle anyone who would.

The US has done so much harm with regime change, actually since GWB and Iraq (blame both Obama and GWB) that someone else will have to clean up the mess while hopefully we clean up our own problems.

Egypt's military is the only military, globally, that's done anything to turn back the mess US policy has created.

This is an ISIS tactic...to scare the locals before they take a community....they send in car bombs and suicide killers to get people to go indoors...there will be more until the people are too afraid to be on the streets...so this tactic clears out the streets before they charge in.
