If you're going to Bergeron's Restaurant in Louisiana bring your appetite - and your gun.

Customers at the Port Allen outlet who carry a weapon are given a 10% discount on their meal.

According to US news reports, restaurant owner Kevin Cox said he came up with the idea as a way to thank law enforcement officers who go to the restaurant.

Question to those FReepers that know:

Is showing your gun, even in this benign setting, a violation of Louisiana Conceal Carry laws?

If I brought all my guns, they would owe me money, but I digress...it's a great idea.

I found this on the NRA-ILA site pertaining to La gun laws. If it's still accurate, then the first sentence seems to indicate open carry is OK.

The state of Louisiana recognizes open carry. No person shall carry a concealed firearm intentionally without a permit unless one is a peace officer in performance of his or her official duties. The Deputy Secretary of Public Safety Services of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall issue a concealed handgun permit to any citizen who qualifies for a permit.

Thanks. Wish Texas had that.

Actually, I wished they had Alaska style carry laws.

For reference of why my question:

Sec. 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun...and intentionally displays the handgun in plain view of another person in a public place.

Dang! This just shows how freaking difficult it is to figure out what to do. There's so much conflicting info out there. I guess the only way to be sure is to go by whatever is on the books in the state legal code, although figuring out that mumbo-jumbo can be a handful too.

The way I look at it, every time I leave the house I'm probably breaking four or five laws I don't even know about.

I’m looking for the tongue in cheek signs which say “Adult Ladies and Gentlemen will not be seated unless armed, excepting those who are not.”

I’m not proud. I’ll take a discount for being a Vet who carries, being over 65, being White, being a Christian, being ugly and being hungry when meal time comes around. A discount is a discount in my books.

.As long as a major portion of the menu is reserved for pork, I’m fine with it. Have you ever notice the more pork a restaurant serves the less muzzies there are hanging around.

I’m trying to figure out how they could run with this as a theme. Like that Texas restaurant known around the world for its steaks so big that if a person can eat one, he doesn’t have to pay for it.

Ladies’ Nights are still legal in Louisiana, so why not “Armed Ladies’ Night”?

Likewise, have an “Armed Veterans Night”. They might even bring in a military celebrity guest speaker.

Importantly, a LOT of politicians are backing gun rights now and using them in their platforms, so this restaurant would be a natural for relatively low cost political rally, with menu prices *higher* than normal, with the extra going to the candidates election fund.

That might really work. Not the $500 a plate crowd, but charging $50 for $15 worth of food, if enough people turn out, that could be a big boost to a local candidate.

Sounds good. I hope they persist. I remember one more northerly that got worried about doing this and stopped.
