BMW, Lexus, VW, Porsche, Mini, Mercedes and probably other upscale and high-end cars use some sort of noise enhancement, some as simple as piping fake engine sound through the sound system whether on or off.
Does that make it go faster? LOL
A Subaru Boxer 4 with cutback exhaust sounds more like a Porsche than Porsche does, lol. But the teen and twenty-something Fast & Furious boy racers get entirely too carried away with the fartcans. Sounds more like a low-flying helicopter then.
Catback. Stupid autocorrect, lol.
Mattel made something like this. I had one on my bicycle.

Chuckle, chuckle, snicker, snicker, snicker.
A Focus st will almost match the speed of your gt. I have a muscle car of my own that I absolutely love - a 1973 Gran Torino Sport - but it and its cousins are dinosaurs. There is very, very little you can do in a muscle car that cannot be done in smarter, more efficient, and cheaper sports cars - unless you focus only on the top end models of each muscle car. At that point, you may as well be springing for a supercar and get the better handling as well.
The 2.3-liter EcoBoost, with 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque on tap...
Technology and the four-cylinder engine
1972 Corvette: "The LS5 454 cu in (7.4 L) big block was again available and came in at 270 hp (201 kW). Noteworthy is in 72 the LS5 was not available to California buyers"
Yep. We like to remember the muscle and pony cars of old as mean speed machines, but the truth is thst because of several factors, smaller engines are catching up. And since those smaller engines are being put in lighter, more aerodynamic cars, a lumbering hunk of steel with mediocre suspension and poor handling just can’t keep up.
Dude, where's my other four cylinders?
I had a Marine buddy back in ‘68 who prior to enlisting had a job delivering for an Atlanta drugstore using his VW. His engine died, so he asked the dealer, “Can you give me a little more power?”
With a wicked grin, the mechanic asked, “How much power do you want?”
Anyway, he ended up with a 911 engine & transmission in his mid ‘60’s Beetle. Boy, did he have fun!
He told me of one kid & his girl in a ‘67 Chevelle, loud pipes, etc. who pulled up next to him at a light. My buddy looked over and said “Rrrrr, rrrrr” to the girl, who broke out laughing. They roared off and he putt-putted up to the next light.
“Rrrr-rrrr” he said again. This time the girl elbowed her boyfriend and they both broke up laughing.
Green light, VW disappears to the next stoplight. Chevelle slowly pulls up, neither occupant will look at the VW.
You know how we Marines are; simple minds, simple pleasures!

Fartcans are all they’ve got. I like how they stop revving their engine when a Mustang GT or Challenger R/T pulls up to the light.
As if there weren't enough noise on the road. You can't turn off the sound system with this? Talk about annoying and a headache.
Well, makes sense, since a 911 is just a stretched and altered VW Beetle.
Dan Gurney did the same thing. He used to get out on the California freeways and look for Cadillacs to blow off.
:-)
Never actually gone up against one, have you, lol?
>>Never actually gone up against one, have you, lol?
Yeah. All the time.
I’d disable that mess in a heartbeat.
Well, then, you know that a Mustang GT and a WRX are pretty equally matched, with a tuner WRX and a good driver being more likely to win any matchup. Challenger I can’t say but Mustang GT, sure. I can take them in a heavy GT turbo wagon hauling dogs in the back, lol.
Maybe so but the HP is at the higher revs. My advice, go for the 5.0 if you want excellent perfermance.
By 72 the air pumps et al they had on the engines were the equal of putting a pillow on top of the carb.
