Christina Briggs, 26, from Wigan, says she hates her large size
But she wants help from the government to lose weight She's on benefits and can only afford to buy junk food and takeaways
She said being fat is not her 'fault' as 'healthy food is too expensive'

An obese mother-of-two who lives on benefits says she needs more of taxpayers' money to overhaul her unhealthy lifestyle.

Christina Briggs, 26, from Wigan, says she hates being 25 stone but she can't do anything about it because she can only afford junk food. Meanwhile, exercise is out of the question because she doesn't have the funds to join a gym.

The single mother told Closer Magazine: 'It's not easy being overweight and on benefits. If I was well off, I'd be able to buy fresh food and afford a gym membership.

'I tried swimming but it cost £22 a month and it meant I had to cut back on my favourite pizza and Chinese takeaways.'

Unemployed Christina gets £20,000 in benefits a year and lives in a council house with her two children by different fathers, Helena, 10, and Robert, two.

She left school as a teenager after falling pregnant with her daughter following a one night stand....

What do you mean? That’s pretty good money for being on welfare.

It's especially good money if the taxpayers are also footing the bill for her housing. (I'm not familiar with how the Brits run their version of Section 8/"affordable" housing.)

Perhaps your sarcasm detector needs a tuneup. Sorry, I really didn't think a </sarcasm> tag was necessary on that post. :=)

IOW:

"I made an effort to lose weight, but the results would have made me lose weight."

Sorry, these days a “/s” is usually necessary for me. :)

Yesterday somebody posted a comment without the /s and I thought he was serious.

Losing weight isn’t a matter of money. It’s a decision, after which you make it happen with what resources you have. She can count calories and limit her intake with what she regularly eats and she can walk. Both of those save money.

I’m almost that size, but I’m a big, muscular man and hopefully taller than her. And more than twice her age, I might add.

Well, you're a big guy, and you are also the poster of the article. I'm sure those two aren't connected, and it's more the welfare angle that motivated you. Anyway, I did the translation from stone to pounds, and I was impressed.

Take her to a dairy and find out. However, she may spook the other livestock.

I would imagine it's been years since she's seen the carpet.

I once had a patient that weighed over 500 pounds. She was in a nursing home, where they tried to help her lose weight. Her family would come in to visit and sneak her pies, sodas, all kind of fattening snacks. She died about the age of 30. Just as a practical matter, some cases are hopeless.

If she had to walk to the store for the food she eats and carry it back, that’s a full workout.

I have lost about 65 lbs over the last two years be using a secret formula....

It’s called the “push away diet”....push your plate away ....try to limit myself to under 2000 calories a day...if you are cutting out junk food 2000 calories is pretty good eating ...

I only eat food that is grown on trees, in the ground or on a hoof and chicken....

Eat as little as possible processed foods....

Lbs will melt off...

Most of my girlfriends (except in Korea) have been bigger girls, but not in her category or even close. Never had a bad experience, not even once.

Yeah, it’s the welfare thing. About 45% of my time at the unemployment office was spent dealing with welfare recipients and 55% helping veterans find work. Two very different things...
