The khapra beetle is one of the most destructive insects in the world. It's hard to eradicate because it can go for long periods without food or water, making it a menace to the grain and seed industry (since it likes the dry conditions afforded by large stocks of grain.)
So kudos to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Philadelphia who intercepted a khapra beetle in a passengers baggage at Philadelphia International Airport. The Dept. of Homeland security provided the details in a statement:
CBP officers referred a family that arrived from Saudi Arabia via Qatar to a secondary agriculture examination after the family declared possessing some food items August 19. During the baggage examination, CBP agriculture specialists discovered immature and adult Coleopteran insects inside two burlap sacks that contained a combined nine pounds of rice.
CBP shipped the specimens to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) entomologist for identification, and August 27, the USDA confirmed the insects to be Khapra Beetle (Trogoderma granarium Everts).
The khapra beetle is known as a dirty feeder because it damages more grain than it consumes, and because it contaminates grain with body parts and hairs. These contaminants may cause gastrointestinal irritation in adults and especially sickens infants.
I went up to the UP during the worst of it. If you had firewood for camping in the UP you had to dump it on the south side of the bridge.
If the lampreys don’t get em, the asian carp will.
That litter box must belong to one very big kittie.
Stop insulting insects by comparing them to HIM! LOL
What is in the photo?

Sorry, but yes, that is a true statement. Facts are very stubborn things aren’t they?
What is that?
I'm guessing the beverage in the blue cans is pop. But on my way out of Saudi Arabia, we had a half day layover in Bahrain to wait for the connecting flight. We were in the airport lounge as we were flying business class courtesy of the company.
A couple of Saudis dressed just like these guys came in an attacked the beer cooler. They seemed especially fond of the Heineken. They had at least six each before it ran out. Then they turned to some of the cheaper American beers.
The staff didn't restock the cooler until they left to catch their connecting flight. So I'm guessing this wasn't an anomaly.
You can see rib bones in that slop! Big ones! Like they came from a camel.
Do they eat camels?
KHORUF MANDI
If they don't die a very early jihad death, they have a diabetes rate comparable to or worse than Americans.
Did you vote in the poll? (I would hope)
It’s a hog trough for feeding muzzies.
Not to me, Sequoyah. I spent two years in the belly of that beast in Jeddah and Riyadh
Few people in this country have had that “pleasure” and that includes military since they are a bit sheltered in their bases.
Phew! We simply took their rice away!
I thought for a moment the article suggested that the passengers themselves might present some parasitic danger to America or otherwise present a destructive risk.
Praise Allah, that is not the case.
