“said the jets intercepted the planes about 55 nautical miles from the Alaskan coast at about 7 p.m. Pacific time Wednesday.”

Uh, I hope they mean GMT. Otherwise, the person who wrote this is an idiot.

Also, there is a 12-mile limit so that 55 miles is still not in Alaskan air space.

This was published on 9/20. I think they’re referring to 9/17 as the “Wednesday” - not today. This is old news. I picked it up on ZITE over the weekend.

Old news. I was doing this sort of thing 50 years ago in what was then called the Air Defense Command. F-94’s F-89’s, F-86D’s. ‘Twas a hoot!

One can only hope it was a case of the Russian pilots
going, “Shit, where did those guys come from!??”.

What was your search criteria?

Using the word "intercept" and making sure the pull down box below the search box is set to "titles," I Get:

Search isn't the greatest feature of Free Republic.

At its narrowest, the Bering Strait is only 53 miles wide, so it is possible for Russian planes to be over Russian land and still be within 55 miles of the coast of Alaska.

.......two IL-78 tankers, two Mig-31s, and two Bear bombers.

So? Coulda been a retro fly-by.
55 miles out of where in Alaska?

Today is Wednesday, it is right now 4:43 Eastern Standard Time.

So, of the coast of Alaska right now it is about 43 minutes past noon. .

Thanks, I thought maybe some air force spokesperson had caught obama hoof and mouth disease.

Agree.

I usually use Google.

Query the title and add “Free Republic,” in quotes.

A guy here at FR showed me another, better way to do that at Google, but I forgot to write it down.

Using his way, you could find every FR post on Google just seconds after it was posted at Free Republic.

Why give the Reds a demonstration? Certain that those Russian planes had mucho electronics on board to evaluate the F 22’s capabilities. F 18s or Canadian CF18s would have been quite sufficient.

Query the title and add “Free Republic,” FreeRepublic.com in quotes.

Partial title even better, just select the important words, that often picks up the same topic written from a different source
